OCOXNOR, a citizen of the nited States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois. have inventeda certain new and in Draft-Rigging for liail\va v ars, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying dra\'vings, forming a part of this specification. My invention relates to imln'ovenlents in draft rigging for railway cars.
The object of my invention is, to provide a draft gear of simple construction and eiicient operation.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in central vertical longitudinal section, of a draft gear embodying my invention, and showing the parts in normal position; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on line of Fig. 1, showing the position of the parts in full buff; Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the draft yoke.

The draft yoke 1Q is of the horizontal type and is mounted between the dra ft members, the limbs 13A-13 thereof being received between the upper and lower stop members. The draft yoke 12 lis forwardly provided with the transverse slots 14l4- adapted for tbe passage ot' the coupler key 15, the coupler key extending through the transverse slot 16 through the dra w-bar 17 (only the rear end of the draw-bar is shown in the drawings) the end of the key 15 passing through slots 18-18 in the draft members, the said slots spaced apart, and each con-I respectively, and the upper sisting preferably of a channel-shaped meme.

The draft gear illustrated by the drawings is of the tandem type, the front compression resisting member 19 consisting preferably of the outer spring 20 and the inner sp'ringl nested therein. The lrear compression resisting member consists preferably of the outer springl 23 and the inner spring Je nested therein. The front compression resisting member is mounted -between the front follower' QG and the front intermediate follower 27. The upper and lower stop members are each provided with vertical openings ZSMQS, there being one in each stop member for each follower, the upper end of each follower being received in its appropriate slot 0f the upper Stop member, and the lower end of each follower be ing received in its appropriate registering slot in the lower stop member. T he transverse members forming the ends of the vertical slots in the stop members are the Stopsboulders for the followers. Thus there is provided for the front follower front, upper and lower stop-shoulders 30 and 31 respectively, upper and lower limiting stopshoulders 32 and i3 respectively, for the front intermediate follower the intermediate upper and lower stop-shoulders 34- and 35 and lower limiting stop shoulders 3G and 3 respectively; for the rear intermediate follower the upper and lower intermediate stop-shoulders 37^ and 3S respectively, and the upper and lower limiting stop-shoulders 39 and 40 respectively; for the rear follower the upper and'lower rear stop-shoulders 4l and 42 respectively. and the upper and lower limiting stop-shoulders 43 and 44 respectively. The draft yoke 12 is provided with an intermediate connecting thimble 45, preferably integral with the limbs of the yoke, and preferably formed of an upper transverse web 4G, a lower transverse web 47, and a vertical. preferably integral web 4-8. The
limbs 13 of the yoke are rearwardly con` neeted by the connecting member 49, preferably comprising the integral outer web 5() and the preferably integral filler web 51. The rear connecting member 49 and the thimble 45 of the yoke are provided with longitudinal openings 52-52 to receive a bar 53, the said bar 53 entering the butt end of the drew-br through the opening 54: in the rear face thereof at one end, and extending through the yoke at the other end, the yoke being provided with the boss and a pin 5G passing through said boss and the bar 53 to prevent the occidental displacement of the bar. The followers are each provided with s longitudinal perforation 57 through which the bar passes, there being provided a thimble or sleeve 58 between the followers of each set, each sleeve 5S receiving the bar 53 therethrough. Each sleeve 58 is surrounded by an inner ooil spring, the inner coil spring being in turn surrounded by :in outer coil. Euch outer coil spring is supported by the lower stop member, and the outer coil through the inner coil and the sleeve supports the bar 52, the bar being also supported by the draw-bar and draft yoke, said bar 52 supporting the followers and preventing their accidental displacement. Thus through the springs and bar the followers are supported.
