To (ZZZ zl'lmm it'may concern Be it known that I, Enwano Bowen, a citizen of the United States, residing at Batavia, in the county of Genesee and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Label- Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

My improvement relates to cabinets particularly adapted for holding stocks of druggist labels of various sizes, in such position that any labels required may be readily selected and removed one at a time. Many different sizes and shapes of labels are required by the druggist and, for convenience, they should be kept where they are readily accessible and at the same time prevented from becoming soiled or curled and crumpled.

The object of my cabinet is to accomplish these results in a simple and efiicient manner and at the same time provide for readily adjusting the label holding devices so that labels of various sizes may be properly held.

A further object is to so construct the cabinet as to form a suitable support and inclosure for the label holding devices and which may, if desired, be provided with an inclined top adapted to SGIY'G as a conven ient writing desk where the labels may be filled in.

In carrying out these objects I preferably construct a cabinet of wood or metal, open at the front and provided with-a slanting desk-like top. The end walls of the cabinet are adapted to support rods or bars elitending parallel to the front of the cabinet and preferably so located as to support the label holding devices in an inclined position dipping toward the front.

The label holding devices are preferably flanged partitions which are adapted to be removably secured and supported upon rods or bars above referred to as provided for that purpose. In order that the cabinet may be readily adapted to accommodate labels of varying widths, the flanged partitions or label holding devices are adjustable transversely along the rods or supports, thus enabling anyone to quickly ad ust thfidlmensions of the several label compartments to meet the requirements.

In carrying out my invention I have illustrated one form of cabinet in the accompanying drawings of which- Figure 1 is a front elevation partially broken away at one corner; Fig. 2 isa cross section on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the adjustable flanged partitions and Fig. 4 is a cross section of the same on line 4ft of Fig. 3.

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the cabinet which, as shown, is provided with a slanting top 2 which is adapted to serve as desk and may be used when filling 111 the prescription labels. The cabinet is preferably open at the front and is pro vided with rods 3 extending parallel to the front of the cabinet and embedded or otherwise secured in the ends of the frame of the cabinet 1. The rods 3 are spaced apart vertically a sufficient distance to accommodate labels of the sizes desired and as indicated in the drawings the rear rods are in a plane above the corresponding front rods 3 so that a plane passing through a front rod and the corresponding rear rod will be at an angle to the base of the cabinet. The rods 3 are intended to support the label holding devices 4: which may be constructed of any suitable material but preferably are bent up out of sheet metal as indicated in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings- Each of the label holding devices 4, as shown, consists of a partition plate provided with lateral flanges 5 at the base thereof, upon which the labels are adapted to be supported. The flanges 5 on each side of the partition; extend forward slightly beyond the end o f the partition and are bent up at 6 so as to serve to retain the bot-tom edges of the labels in position. The lower or front end of the partition is provided with lateral flanges 7 which are adapted to prevent the labels from sliding out of the compartment formed by the flanges 5 and adjacent partitions. The flanges 7 are at an angle to but do not extend quite to the flanges 5, thus leaving a space through which the labels may be withdrawn.

Each of the label holding devices 4 is provided with suitable clips or attaching devices for securing the same imposition on the rods 3 in the cabinet. In the present instance the lugs 8 and 9 which are portions of the flanges 5 are bent downward and adapted to partially encircle the rods 3 in the manner indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawings.

From the construction 'of the holding devices or partitions, it will be seen that for narrow labels a large number 'of devices 4 can be mounted upon the rods and spaced at proper disv tance apart to accommodate a large number of labels while if the labels are longer or of considerable size, it will not be 'necessary' to use so many of the flanged partitions or label holding devices. This arrangement is adapted to make the cabinet flexible in that all varieties of labels may be accommodated in the cabinet and only a single style or size increasing the dimensions of the side walls of the cabinet, bemg careful to space the rods apart the proper distance to accommodate the labels it is desired to place in thev cabinet.

It will be seen that those using the cabinet can readily ascertain the number of labels of any particular variety still in stock and hence the construction;facilitates keeping track of .the labels so that the stocks need not become exhausted before a new supply is ordered.

The labels may be readily removed as desired by catching the bottom of the front label with the thumb. and forefinger and drawing it forward and downward. The entire mass of labels back of'the one being removed. will then move forward so that the next succeeding label will be in position to be likewise removed when desired. The turned up ends 6 of theflanges 5 are adapted to assist in retaining the lower ends of the labels while the front label is being removed and at the same time facilitate grasping the lower edge of the label.

It will be understood that various modifications in the supporting devices and their arrangement as well as inthe shape andspecific constructiono'f the adjustable label holding partitions may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as set forth in the claims.

Iclaim: 1. In a label cabinet the combination of partitions,flanges extending from the base thereof, flanges extending from the front end of said partitions in a plane at an angle to the base-flanges, said flanges being adapted to support labels substantially vertical in said cabinet, supports for said partitions, and means for securing the partitions to the supports and-adapted to'permit lateral adjustment of said partitions for accommo- I dating labels of various sizes as desired.
