Description

BAG HOLDER Filed Feb. 27, A1926 UNITED STATES PAT 1,640,084 ENT oFFicE.
JOHN LEICHT, JB., OF BURLINGTON, IOWA.
BAG HOLDER.
Application filed February 27, 1926. Serial No. 91,059.
rlhis invention has for its object the provision of a bag holder or' novel construction which may be suspended over a store counter and carry a supply ot sired size may be invention also has for its bags of various sizes in such a manner that a bag of a deeasily withdrawn.
The object the provision or means whereby containers for bags oi' assorted sizes may be retained in an overhead rack or carrier but when necessary to being constructed them singly, as needed,
the adjoining containers easily removed be refilled, the containers to permit the removal ot without disturbing or the carrier.
Other incidental objects will'appear in the course or' tlie following description. ln the accompanying drawings;
Figure l is a perspective view or present invention;
holder embodying my a bag Figure 2 is a vertical section through the length of a container;
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of a coiitainer;
Figure 4 is a detail view showing partitions employed in a container;
Figure 5 shows another pending the containers.
The complete apparatus invention includes a racli or trame and method of susembodying my a plurality or containers supported by the rack or trame. In the form shown in Figs.
i and 2, the traine or rack is of skeleton or open torni and comprises rectangular end trames 1, preiierably oit angle bars, connected at their' upper rear ends by a strip 2 whereby rigidity will be att ained. rlhe end trames are connected at their lower rear of angle form whereby the rear ends or prevent rearward endwise movement of the latter, while a similar but narrower strip connects the lower iront corners o'I' the end :trames and provides a restraining supper ends or the containers. A the upper front corners or t or the front bar 5 connects the end frames sothat spreading ofthe eiid frames will be eiectualiy prevented.
rlfhe rack is supended from a ceiling or other iixed support by chains 6 or their equivalents attached to the end frames ot' the rack.
- The bags are carried in tainers 7 graduated 1n size to hold the bags of a given size.
a series ot' conaiid each adapted These containers have side and end walls but may .pass through the outlet `of the frame and be open at the top to facilitate the placing of bags therein while their bottoms are each provided with a slot 8 to permit withdrawal of the bags. The containers are disposed side by side and rest at their ends upon the plates 3 and 4, the Hanges of the plates preventing the containers from sliding out of the rack.l The bags 9 are piled in the containers with the -liaps 10, formed by folding their bottoms, overlying the slots 8, and when a bagr is to be extracted the flap or told 10 is grasped and drawn down through4 ythe adjacent lslot 8.
lt will be noted upon reference to Figs. 2 and 3, that the slot 8 is T-shaped, the stem of the T extending along the medial longitudinal line of the container and through the greater portion of the lengt-h of the container. As a result of this ormation, a bag in the act of withdrawal moves forwardly and downwardly so that its removal is easily and smoothly accomplished, and the bottom bag isalways readily accessible. The slot 8 is defined by and the bottoni of the container consists of a front platerll which is secured rigidly to and between the sides of the container at the liront end thereof, and a rear plate 1:2 which'is in the form of a fork extending from the rear end of the container and presenting side rests 13, said rear plate being also rigidly secured to and between the sides of the container. Upon reference to Fig. 2, it will be noted that the plate 12 is thicker than the plate 11 so that its upper suri'ace will be oliiset vertically relative to the latter plate.A
The body portions of the bags will thus be elevated somewhat above the flaps thereof so that the flaps will lie partly open and may be easily grasped, and, to avoid tearing of the bags, the edges over they are drawn are convex, as shown at 14 andV 15. Vhen a bag is drawn downward, it'collapses along its central line to slot and this collapsing or partial folding of the bag overcomes any adhesion between it and the superposed bag.
In Fig. 5 I have shown a support 16 consisting of a single open frame, and the conrtainers are equipped at their ends with upstanding hooks 17 to engage over the sides therefrom.
Bags have not been an extent that all bags of a given width suspend the containers which lll) standardized to such Ycapacity ot the container.
Will be equal in length. It will, Consequently, be necessary at tim-es to place in a Container bags Which are shorter than the To meet this Condition and bring the folds of the bags over the slot 8, I provide partitions 18 which are inserted in the containers and held by being engaged at their edges in selected grooves 19 formed in the sides ot the containers.
The sides of the rack or suspending trame lend then'iselves readily to advertising. Metallic plates 2() may be secured in any convenient manner to the bars of the rack and reentrant 4flanges 2l', formed along` the top and bottom edges of the plates, present ='oev'es in which display cards may 'be removably engaged and held.
The device is very simple in Construction and rwill maintain a large supply of bags vithin Convenient reach ot salesmen Without curtailing the space desired 'for the display of goods or interferingl With the movements of clerks or customers. `While theV containers Will be firmly held by the rack, any container may be easily removed When necessary Without disturbing` any other Container and the supply ot' bags may thus be easifly replenished Whenever necessary.
Having fully described my invention what I Claim as new and 'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A bag hol-der Comprising a container' lhaving` ends and sides, a front bottom plate secured between its sides, and a rear bottom plate also secured between its sid-es, said rear plate having parallel side men'ibers -teriniiriating,l short oit' the iront' plate whereby n "shaped slot is deh'ned t-l'irough the bottom ot the Container, 'the depth of the container over the rear plate being less than its depth over the it'ront plate.
Tn testimony w'hereol, I have signed 'this specification.
