Description

. F. F. PATOUT.
Improvement in Cane-Stubble Shavers.
Patented May 23,1871.
Unrrnn Snares PATENT QFFIQE.
FELIX F. PATOUT, OF JEANERETT, LOUISIANA.
iMFROVEMENT IN CANE-STUBBLE SHAVERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,094, dated May 23, 1871.
. clare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which the figure represents a view in perspective.
My invention relates to an improvement in cane-stubble shavers; and consists of a knife and a mold-board arranged upon a frame in a manner for outtin g off the old cane-stubble at any depth wanted, and at the same time leaving the cane-rows perfectly clear, by means of the moldboard, without destroying any of the stubble, so that the rows, being clear of the old stumps, can be worked more advantageously, enabling the deeper and better eyes of the ratoon to sprout.
The shaver should be used after the caneridges are properly bared off, so as to leave the top about one foot wide.
In the drawing, 1 and 2 represent the two slides; 3 and 4, the curved bars joining the slides together; 5, the knife or shaver; 6, the mold-board; and 7 the drivers seat.
1 2 are two parallel pieces of timber, arranged in a manner to pass on each side of the cane-stubble, (when bared off,) answering as frame, and in shape of slides. M M represent sheet-iron soles passing under the slides.
3 4 are circular pieces of iron holding the slides 1 2 firmly in their proper places, and bolted on the frame at a b. s is a knife or shaver attached at an angle to the surface of the frame by bolts 0 D. 6 is the mold-board over the shaver, and attached to the frame by bolts of. g is the brace, holding the mold-board attached at h a. 0 is also a brace, to hold the moldboard attached to the frame. 7. represents the drivers seat, bolted on slides 1 and 2 at Claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The knife 5 and mold-board 6, constructed as described, and secured to the slides 1 and 2 at an angle of forty-five degrees, more or less, when said slides 1 and 2 are provided with soles m m, and connected together by curved bars 3 and 4, the former supported by braces k k, and provided with devices for attaching the team, all in the manner and for the pur pose' hereinbefore specified.
