FOLDING TRESTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 2&, 1915.
Application filed February 2, 1915. Serial No. 5,750.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES C. HENsLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alexandria, in the county of Madison, State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Trestles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in trestles.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple and novel trestle which can be quickly and easily folded into a compact form so that it may be readily carried about.
Another object is to provide a folding trestle which is simple in construction and which is strong and durable in use.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the trestle in open position, Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view, and Fig. 4: is a bottom plan view of the trestle in folded position.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, 10 represents an elongated and inverted Ushaped bar which forms the upper beam of the trestle. EX- tending transversely through each end of the bar is a bolt or pin 11, and mountedr on he lower portions of theselegs are pivotally connected together by means of the bracing links 13, these links being pivotally connected at their inner ends as shown at 14:. One of the links 13, adjacent its connection with the other link is formed with a struck up and rolled tongue 15 through which passes an oscillatible pin 16. The inner end of this pin is pivotally connected to the lower end of a link 18, as indicated at 17 said link being pivotally connected at its upper end to a link 19 which is pivotally mounted within the bar 10 at a suitable point inwardly of the pin 11. The elements just described are duplicated at-the other end of the bar 10, as will be apparent from an inspection of the drawings. The pivotal point 14, and the pivotal connection between the links 18 and 19 are of the stop joint variety so that these pivots will not swing beyond their full open position, thus making rigid braces to hold the legs 12 apart, and braced from the bar 10.
To fold the trestle, the joint of the links 18 and 19 is broken downwardly, and then the joint 14 broken upwardly, thus permit ting the legs to be folded together and to be swung on the pin 11 upwardly within the hollow of the bar 10, the links 18 and 19 readily folding together and passing up into the hollow of the bar also. When thus folded the trestle is in a small compact condition, and can be readily carried about.
Particular attention is called to the connection of the link 18 with the link 13 so as to provide, in efi'ect, a swivel or universal oint, thus compensating for the vertical movement of the link 13 and the inward swing of the legs 12 toward folded position within the bar.
What is claimed is:
1. A trestle comprising a bar, legs mov- CHARLES C. HENSLEY.
