FRONT POST FOR, GORSETS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug.17, 1915.
Application filed September 11, 1913. Serial No. 789,345.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, EVA J. Acne, a citizen of the United States, residing at ashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Front Posts for Corsets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in front posts for corsets.
Much discomfort is due to the pinching of the flesh between the meeting edges of corsets as ordinarily worn, especially by fleshy persons; and it is the primary purpose of my invention to prevent this by providing a flap which is connected with one of the edges and underlaps the other, thus precluding the catching or pinching of the flesh between the meeting edges of the corset.
lVith this object in View, my invention consists in an improved front-post for frontlace corsets, the lacing-center or central member of which is reinforced to afford the required stiffness, this lacing-center having fastening means extending substantially throughout its length and intermediate the edges, whereby it may be clasped to the adjacent edge of the corset while providing a stiffened flap which underlaps said meeting edges when clasped, and the opposite edge of the lacing-center having eyelets whereby it is laced to the adjacent edge of the corset.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is a view of the front-post of a corset showing the central member or lacing-center laced at one edge, and unclasped at the other; and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional View through the lacing-center and one of the side membersof the post, showing said members unclasped.
A, represents the lacing-center of the front post shown in Fig. 1. This is made of a suitable fabric preferably having several rows of stitches 1, 2, 3 and 4 whereby three boning-pockets 5, 6 and 7 are formed, extending longitudnnally of the front-post and parallel with each other. In the central boning-pocket 6, the steel 8 is held, and in the side-pockets 5 and 7 the bones 9 and 10 are held, respectively.
Fastening means such as studs 11, 11, shown in Fig. 1, are secured to the central steel 8 and protrude through the fabric upon which hook the clasps 12, 12, on the adjacent edge 13 of the corset, and a row of eyelets 14, 14, is formed in the space between the two stitchings 3 and 1 for the lace 15.
The stitching line 2 between the steel 8 and bone 9 constitutes a hinge, and the part from the hinge to the left-hand edge including the bone 9 forms the underlying fiap, vthe bone preventing the latter from buckling while giving the required stiffness to the flap so that it will bend with and con form to the entire front-post as a whole, and consequently always lie in place for the adjacent edge of the corset to rest over in hooking the corset.
The lacing center of the post terminates at the lower end in the flexible end 16 in which an eXtra row of three eyelets 17 17, is' formed parallel with the lower end of the row of eyelets 14, 14:, into which the hooks 18, 18, are adapted to fasten, the flap continuing on to the end as shown in Fig. 1.
More or less slight changes might obviously be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described, in addition to what has been recited, Without departure from the spirit and scope of my invention, hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact constructions herein set forth, but
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A. lacing center for the front post of a corset having a fastening means extending substantially throughout the length thereof and intermediate the edges, eyelets between said fastening means and one edge to receive the corset-lace, and the edge on the 0pposite side of the fastening means free and constituting an integral flap, which is reinforced to give a certain degree of stiffness and protection to the wearer, and which flap invariably assumes and maintains a position beneath the clasped edge of the corset when the open edges of the corset are fastened together.
In testimony whereof Iaffix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
EVA J. AGEE.
