IMPROVEMENT IN FLOUR-BOLTING REELS.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, DAVID SHAMP, of Perry, in the county of Wyoming and in the .State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flour-Belting Reel; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in'the construction and arrangement of a flour-bolting reel, as will 'be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make-and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is an end view, showing two reels;

Figure 2 is a section of a skeleton reel;

Figure 3 is a vertical section of an extension stud used in the reel; and

Figure 4 shows a section of the finished reel.

. The skeleton or frame-work of my reel is constructed after the ordinary manner, and consists of the central shaft A, arms 'a a, and ribs Z Z, said frame being made about three and a half inches less in diameter than the finished reel is intended to be.

Upon the outside of each rib Z are placed metal studs or extension pieces B B, for the purpose of raising the outer rib or stretcher 0 one and a half inch, more or less, asneed may be, from the inner rib Z, the stud B and stretcher 0 being fastened-to the rib Zby means of a screw, 1), as shown in fig. 3, -which screw also fastens the bolting-cloth when put on.

On some'or all of the ribs Z, in place of the studs B, I may use the adjustable extension studs D for giving the cloth an equal tension throughout the bolt.

By making the reel with the inner rib from one to one and a half inch fromthe outer one or cloth, it spreads out and evens the meal, and does not carry it up and cast it off into the bottom of the bolt forcing through shives and specksforeigu to flour, but gives us a chance to use the whole of the bolting-surface of the cloth, thereby increasing the capacity of the bolt so as to use from two to four numbers finer cloth, making as much or more flour and of better quality.

The cloth is made so as to incase the outer rib or stretcher 0 within the cloth, as shown at L; or, in other words, the connecting-strips in the cloth are made double so as to pass the outer rib or stretcher 0 through between them, making the inner surface of the bolt smooth, leaving no place for the meal to lodge and bank or paste.

The cloth may be tacked on the inside of one rib and on the outside of the other, as shown at M, fig. l, which would answer the same purpose. This should be on the outside ribs or stretcher-s, although in the drawing represented as being on the inner ribs.

Having thus fully described my invention,

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v The arrangement of the double bolting-cloth O and the ribs 0, when thelatter are inoased within the former, as shown and described, substantially as and for the purposes described.
