Description

M. RUFE.
Improvement in Skinning-Knives.
Patented May 16, 187i.
ammm.
MORGAN RUFE, OF DOYLESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 114,975, dated May 16,1871.
IMPROVEMENT m SKlNNlNG-KNIVES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making of the same.
To all'gvhom it may concern.- I
Be it known that I, MORGAN Born, of Doylestown, in the county of Bucks and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knife for Removing Skins -from Animals; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereonmaking a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a knife for removing skins from animals, as will be hereinafter more. fully set forth.
.In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figures 1 and 3 are side views, and
Figures 2 and 4 are edge views of my knife.
A represents the knife-blade, made spear-shaped, as shown.
This blade is secured and adjusted between two metallic plates, B B, by means of screw-bolts a, said bolts passing through sfots in the knife-blade, thus allowing the blade to be adjusted so as to project more I or less beyond the plates, according to the depth it is desired to out.
Between the blade A and each of the plates B B is inserted a-piece of leather, 0, which prevents any moisture from coming in between the same and rusting or otherwise injuring the'blade.
The plates and blade are attached to a handle, D, as shown.
In some cases I may use the leather and plate on one side of the knife only; hence I do not wish to confine myself to two plates and two pieces of leather to each knife-blade.
Having thus fully described my invention,
-What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination .of the spear-shaped knife-blade A, one or two plates, B, and one or two pieces of leather, 0, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have here- 'unto set my hand this 18th day of March, 1871.
. MORGAN RUFE.
