Be it known that l, EDWARDS THERAUL', a-y citizen of the United States, resid-mgm the j city and county of San Francisco and State f of California, have invented new and useful improvements in iiindow-Chairs, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to ywindow chairs,

i! andparticularly to that class ofportable seat-s which vis'adapted to be used on the outside of windows while cleaningIsame.k i` j.

One of the` objects of thepresent inven-4 tion is to provide ay window bracket or chair which is simple, substantial and inexpensive in construction, easy'to manipulate', capable of being easily and` quickly placed in position, and removed therefrom, and which is so constructed and arranged that it may be folded into compact sha-peor form for the purpose of transportation or storage.

Another object of the invention is to provide clamping members for securing the seat on the window sill, when in use, and to provide adjustments `whereby said clamping or `gripping members may be adjusted tofit va-y elevation of the chair inffolded position,

showing itplaced in position on `a window` sill and ready to be opened out.y Fig. 3 is a central, longitudinal section through the chair, showing the adjustments provided in connection with the main clampingor gripping member. Fig. 1- is a bottom view` of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 `is an enlargeddetailview of the adjusting means provided in connection with the exterior gripping members.

More particularly described, A' indicates the seat portionof the rchair and 2 the back.4 The back is in this instance pivotally mounted to the seat, asindicated at 3, and is adapted to be folded up .for storage or shipment, as indicated in Fig. 2. member 11 which is preferably faced with arubbcr pad 12, or the like, to prevent the woodv of the sill from being marred? Hingedly mounted on the rear end of each support-ing member 11, as at 13, is a clamping member 14, the kface of which is also padded with rubber l5 or like material. EX- tending up fromy each clamping member 14 is an arm 16, and connecting. the upper end of each arm with the back'of the chair is a link 17. The opening or folding of the back section of the chair is in this manner transmitted through the :links 17 to swing the giipping'members 14 about their pivots 13 to move saine into a horizontal or vertical position; the vertical position being assumed when thefback is opened out and the horie zontal position, such as indicated in Fig. 2, beingk assumed when the back is folded with relation to the seat. The movements, as be- Afore described, are transmitted through the links 17.

Adjustably mounted underneath the seat proper is a forwardly extending arm 18.

The inner end of said arm is turned down or shaped substantially as shown, and secured on the lower end of said arm is a gripping bar 19 of suitable length. This may also be faced with rubber or like material.

In operation, when it is desired to wash La window, it is only necessary to place the chair/in position, as indicated in Fig. 2. Cross arm 9 is then grasped and swung in the direction of arrow h. This will. cause links 7 to swing outwardly about their piv ots 6 and this movement will in turn be' transmitted throughthe links 5, which are connectedwith the links and the back ofl the chair, to cause ythe back to be raised and swung out to the position indicated in Fig. 1. The links 5 and 7 when 'completely openedout will in this instance form a lock and prevent the back from accidentally swinging forward. The opening movement ofthe links 5 and 7 and back 4 is at the same time 'transmitted through the "links 17 and Y arms 16 to swing the gripping members 14C downwardly and inwardly in the direction of arrow o, causing the gripping membersy to securely grip or engage the outer edge of the window sill, Lsuch as indicated at 20.

Themain gripping bar 19 and arm 18 will in this instance extend into the room and grip the lower and inner side of the window casing. The chair is thus securely locked and clamped in position and ready for use.

For the purpose ofv makingv the clamping or gripping members on the ychair adjust'- able to diiferent sized sills or window casings the following adjustments have been provided :Vv Referring to Figs. 3 and 4, it will be seen'that an adjustable bar- 21' has been provided and is slidably connected to seat A.

The inner end of this bar is turned down, as indicated at V22, and a screw bolt 23 extends through said end. Thev bolt, when VVVturned by means of the nut 24:, will cause bar 21 to move in one direction or the other.

Pivotally mounted in the outer end of bar 21, as at 25, is a pair of links 26, andV pivotally mounted, as at 27, on the inner end of arm 18 is a second screw bolt 28.` This bolt extends through a bar 29 which in turn is pivotally mounted between the links 26. The pivotal mounting of bolt 28 permits this to be swung about pivot 27,'asv indicated by dotted lines at 30, causing arm 18 to be moved out or in according to the position ofv This permits .a vertical: adjustment to se-y cure any desired slope ofthe seat. The main gripping bar 19 is also adjustably clampedto arm 18, as indicated, thus permitting same to be'adjusted to engage with desirable oEsets orridges'zon theinner side of the windowcasing. Y A

A chair -or seat constructed as here yshown is simple in construction, is quickly and easily removedy from the window casing when not in use, and may befolded in compact Y formv for storage.

The materials and finish of the several t partsof the device are suchas the experience andv judgment'of thefmanufacturer maytdictate.

Having thus described my invention, what yI claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. In combination with a base, a horizontal gripping member secured to the base, a

vertical gripping member pivoted to the horizontal gripping member, an arm secured to the vertical gripping member and extendingy above the pivotal point thereof, a back pivoted to the-seat, and a link pivoted at one end to the back above the pivotal point ofl the latter and having its other endeXtend-`ying below the pivotal point of the back andv pivoted to the upper end of the arm.

2. In combinationl with a' seatv and a back pivoted thereto, rearwardly extending brackets on the back below the top'` of the latter, links ypivoted at their ends to therespective brackets, link arms pivoted at'their lower ends to the seat and pivoted to the' lower ends kof the respectivelinks, and a cross arm connecting the upper ends of the link arms.

3. In combination with a seat, and a back v pivoted thereto, a gripping'member mounted forwardly of the back'and independent of the back and ,means pivotally connected to the back andV member for operating the latter from the back.` .t

In combination with a seat and a back pivoted thereto, devices on each side of they back connected thereto and to the seat fork locking the back against accidental pivotal movement, ,and means connecting said devices for operating same in unison and disposed in non-interfering position with respect to the seat whenthe back is inv open position. I

6. In a window bracket, a base, a member f secured tol the base and therebeneath, a clamping arm beneath the base, a screw bolt pivoted to said arm, a pair v'of connected links pivoted to said member, and a bar pivotally connected to the links and through" which said` ybolt threadedly engages.
