To all whom, it may concern.
Be it known that I, THEODORE HENRY KNoRR, citizen of the United States, residing atBreckenridge, in the county of Summit and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ovens, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in ovens of stoves, or ranges, and the object is to provide means for causing the bottom and trays to be moved outwardly upon the opening of the door, whereby access may be had to the articles being cooked for the purpose of examination or removal from the oven without the danger of injury from burns and the like.
The invention relates to still other novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a view in front elevation showing the door closed; Fig. 2 is a view in front elevation with the door broken away to show theinterior of the oven; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view showing the oven door in an open position, and the movable bottom in an extended position; Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical sectional view; and Fig. 5 is a detail view showing the connection between the oven door and draw bar.
A represents. the oven, which may be of any approved shape, but which as shown in the drawing, is practically square. A movable bottom B is mounted within the oven A and is adapted to rest and move over the base or bottom 1 of the oven. Uprights 2, 2 are connected to the movable bottom B, and are provided with elongated slots 3 at their upper ends. Rails 4, 4 are mounted upon the uprights and are provided with lips 5, 5. The lips 5 are connected to the uprights 2 by means of screw bolts 6, the bolts passing through the slots 3 and intothe lips 5. The
' rails 4- are capable ofbeing elevated by loosening the bolts 6 and elevating the rails to the desired height when the bolts can again be screwed into place for fastening the lips and uprights together. A lever 7 is pivotally connected to the rear side of the movable bottom B. A back plate 8 is connected to the rear side of the oven A, and is provided with a flange 9 extending at right an- *vided with a hooked end 16.

Adapted to travel in the elongated slot is a roller 11, which roller is connected to the lever 7. A crank shaft 12 is mounted upon the back of the oven A, and an end of the shaft is pivotally connected to the lever 7, so that upon the movement of the shaft, movement is lmparted to the lever for causng the movable bottom to be moved either in a forward or rearward direction. A drawbar 13 is slidably mounted along one side of the oven A, and has an elongated slot 14 formed vertically therein, in which a stud 15 is received, the stud being connected to the other terminal of the 'crank shaft 12. The forward end of the draw A bracket ,17 is connected to the oven door C, and a pin 18 connected to thebracket 17 is adapted to be received in the hooked portion 16 of the her 13, so that upon the movement of the door, the draW bar will be actuated, and thereby cause the crank shaft to be oscillated, the.
oscillation of the crank shaft causing the lever tobe moved, and impart a movement to the movable bottom, whereby it will be moved either in a forward or rearward direction. A shaft 19 is mounted on the eX- terior of the oven A to which hinges 20 are connected for pivotally mounting the door C .thereon. Links 21 are pivotally connected to the oven A, and to rods 22, the rods sliding in lugs 23 connected to the oven The links and rods form a means of tion, so that the door may withstand the weight of the movable bottom B and the contents carried thereby. With an oven of this character, the receptacles containing food cooking in the oven can be examined, withdrawn from the oven, and given such attention as is necessary, or removed there from without the usual danger attending such operations in the handling of the receptacles. Furthermore, the' oven door C can be swung to a position say practically three-fourths of its distance without imparting any movement to the movable bottom, so that the contents can be examined without disturbing them. If however, it is desired to examine the article being cooked, the oven door can be lowered and the movable bottom will be caused to move outwardly onto the oven door, bringing the articleswithin easy access and without danbar is promoved to a closed position, causing the movable bottom to be forced into its normal ,position upon the bottom of the oven. The
movable bottom and all of the parts are made of suchmaterial that heat is easily radiated therethrough. The movable bot tom of course is, the largest of all the parts, and the material from which it is constructed will be made rather thin so that heat can be easily radiated therethrough.
I claim:
1. The combination with an oven and a door, of a movable bottom, a crank ,shaft connected to'the movable bottom, asliding draw-bar loosely connected to the crank shaft, and means loosely connecting the bar to the oven door, whereby upon the opening and closing of the door, the movable bottom will be moved from and into the oven.
2. .The combination with an oven and door, of a movable bottom having uprights, of tray rails adjustably mounted thereon, a crank shaft, a lever connected to said crank shaft and movable bottom, a sliding drawbar loosely connected to said crank shaft, a bracket connected to the oven door having engagement with the draw bar, whereby upon the opening or closing of the door, the movable bottom is caused to be moved.
3. The combination with an oven and a door, of a movable bottom, a crank shaft connected to the movable bottom, a sliding draw-bar "loosely connected to the crank shaft, and a bracket on the door automatically engaging the draw-bar upon the opening of the door and disengaging the bar upon the closing of the door.
4.-The combination with an oven and a door, of a movable bottom, a crank shaft, a lever connected to the movable bottom and crank shaft, a slotted plate connected tofthe oven, one terminal of said lever slidably connected to said plate for controlling the action of the lever and maintaining the movable bottom in its proper plane, and
means connecting the crank shaft to. the' door whereby upon the movement of the door the crank shaft will be actuated for operating the movable bottom.
