CHAIN-SAFETY.
have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Chain-safeties, of which the following is the specification.
This invention relates to a chain safety for use in connection with looms.
The object of the invention is to provide an attachment for keeping the chain in place on the cylinder shaft longitudinally with respect to said shaft, and to construct the same in such a manner that it will bring an even pressure to bear upon the chain and thus insure as nearly as possible its perfect action upon the cylinder of the loom.
A further object of the invention is to provide an attachment of the class described, and to construct the same in such a manner that it may be easily and quickly applied or removed, also to provide a ready adjustment of the various parts and regulate the tension of the arms upon the chain.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification: Figure 1, is a top plan view; Fig. 2, is a side elevation, and Fig. 3, is a view in end elevation showing the device in proper relation to the chain.
Referring by numerals to the drawings, 1, represents corresponding and oppositely disposed brackets or hangers provided with a slot 2, by means of which the hanger may be secured and adjusted to the outside vibrator comb of the loom. These hangers are also provided with apertures 3, in which is journaled a shaft 4, mounted upon each end of which adjacent to the hangers is an arm 5, the free end of which is curved as shown at 6, and adapted to receive and bear on the chain 20. These arms are secured to and made adjustable upon the shaft by means of set-screws 7. Mounted upon the shaft intermediate the brackets or hangers is a collar 8, provided with a square shoulder 9, and a set-screw 10, the object of which will be hereinafter explained. Coiled upon the shaft 4 between the collar 8 and one of the hangers 1 is a helical spring 11, having one of its ends bent at right-angles, as shown at 12, which is in engagement with the side of the hanger, its other end 18, fitting into a recess 14:, in the collar. It will be seen that by means of the square shoulder upon the collar, said collar may be so adjusted as to Specification of Letters Patent.

regulate the tension of the spring, and when proper adjustment has been obtained, the collar may be secured in position by the set screw. Mounted upon the shaft intermediate the collar and one of the hangers in a corresponding position with reference to the spring, is an adjustable lug or button 15, held in position by a set-screw 16. This lug limits the movement of the arms or levers, by engaging the frame 17 of the loom.
It will thus be seen that we provide a chain safety which will insure a perfect actron in keeping the chain in place upon the cylinder, and will efficiently perform all of its intended functions.
Although we have illustrated and described a single embodiment of the invention, we are aware of the fact that the principles thereof can be carried out with changes in details of construction without departing from the scope of the invention as expressed in the claims. Therefore, we do not wish to be limited to the specific construction shown.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a pattern chain and a set of hangers, a shaft journaled in said hangers, arms adjustably mounted upon said shaft for engaging the pattern chain, means for turning said shaft, means for adjusting said turning means, and means for limiting the movement of the shaft.
2. In a device of the character described, a shaft, arms adjustably mounted upon said shaft in position to engage and bear upon the pattern chain, a helical spring wound upon the shaft, and adapted to actuate the same, and means for limiting the movement of the shaft.
3. In a device of the character described, a set of hangers, a shaft journaled in said hangers, arms adjustably mounted upon the opposite ends of the shaft, the free ends of the arms being curved to fit a pattern chain, a spring upon the shaft, a collar adjustably mounted upon the shaft, one end of the spring being connected to the collar and its other end in engagement with one of the hangers, and a lug adjustably mounted upon the shaft, said lug adapted to limit the movement of the shaft.
4. In a device of the character described, the combination of a shaft, arms mounted upon the shaft, the free ends of the arms be 6. In a loom, the combination with a pating curved to fit and bear upon a pattern tern chain, of a transverse oscillatable shaft, chain, a spring upon the shaft, a collar adand a pair of arms on'said shaft, both oscil- 15 justably mounted upon the shaft, one end of latable with the shaft, and having their ends 0 the spring being connected to the collarand in position to engage and bear upon the its o othier emglin stationary positigln, afidfa' chain to keep it in place. ug a justa y 'mounte upon t e s a t, adapted to limit the movement of the shaft, 5. In a 100m, the combination with a pat- I 10 tern chain, of a 'movably mounted arm Witnesses:
