Be it known that we, CLIFFORD B. Armour) and ALBERT K. PRATT. citizens of the United States, residing at W hitinsville, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Leno-Motions for'Loom-l mbbies, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to looms, and more particularly to looms for leno-weaving where mechanism in operative connection with the loom-dobby and certain predetermined harnesses operates to give a half and return motion to the harnesses.
1n weaving leno it is necessary to cross certain warp-threads and to give to certain predetermined harnesses a half and return move ment during the cross-weaving or a movement that will carry such warp-threads from the plane of the open shed to an intermediate point and back to the original plane. This is done by mechanism connecting the dobby with the harnesses controlling the warpthreads used in cross-weaving, operated independent of the harness-levers, but controlled by theharness-levers when notin use for crossweaving to give a full movement to the harnesses.
The object of our invention is to simplify the mechanism used in leno-weaving and to operate the mechanism or leno-motion by an adjustable cam adj ustably secured to the actuating-rocker of the dobby; and our invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction of the adjustable cam on theactuating-rocker and its connection with the leno-motion, as will be more fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.

Secured to the upper part of the dobbyframe a is the yoke'framef, supporting the rock-shaftf" in the bearingf and fastened to the outer end of the rock-shaft is the cam- 7 arm f, with the rollf" in contact with the adjustable cam E. The segmental arm with the curved rim g is fastened to the rock-shaft on the inner side of the yoke-frame f, and the strap is secured at its outer end to the curved rim g by the screw 7 and at its inner end by the wire r to the link y, connecting by the col-dings g to the harnesses (Z. The harness-levers c extend through the links 9 and operate on the links to give a full move ment to the warp-threads when required in the regular weaving. Surrounding the rockshaft intermediate the yoke-frame f and the segmental arm g is the coiled spring f in spring tension with the cam-arm f to hold 5 the roll f" firmly in contact with the adjustable cam E. i
In the operation of our improved leno-motion the cam E, deriving its reciprocating mo tion from the actuating-rocker I), raises and 9 lowers the cam-arm f, fastened to the rockshaft f. This in turn reciprocates the segmental arm 7 and through the strap g, the link 1f, and the col-dings 1" gives a half and return motion to the harnesses, and this motion is adjustable by raising or lowering the two halves of the adjustable cam E and by adjusting the cam-support e on the actuatingrocker I). The operation of the l'eno-motion through the cam E is continuous, but acts only on-the harness not raised by a harnesslever in the regular weaving.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a leno-motion for looms, a plurality of harnesses, an adjustable cam receiving motion from the loom mechanism, means for giving the harnesses a full movement, and means in operative connection with the harnesses and the adjustable cam to give an independent half and return movement to the harnesses by the adjustable cam, as described.
2. In a. lenomotion for looms connecting with harnesses and having a rock-shaft, an adjustable cam receiving motion from the loom mechanism, and means in operative connection with the rock-shaft and the adjustable cam to give a half and return movement to the harnesses by the operation of the adjustable cam, as described.
3. In a leno-motion for looms, having a rock-shaft, an actuating-rocker deriving motion from the loom mechanism, an adjustable cam secured to the actuating rocker, and means comprising a cam-arm secured to the rocker b pivotally secured to the loom-dobby and deriving a reciprocating motion from the loom mechanism, the cam-support e adjustably secured to the actuating-rocker by the bolt 6 through the slot 6 the two-part adjustable cam E pivoted on the pin a secured in the cam-support and having the cam-faces e 0 the overlapping wings 6* 6 with the slots 6 a for the fastening-bolt 0 and the cam-arm f secured to the rock-shaft f with the roll f held firmly in contact with the adjustable cam E by the coiled spring f on the rockshaft to give a half and return movement to a predetermined number of harnesses by the reciprocating motion of the adjustable'cam E, as described.
