To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, jWILLIAM K.- SCI-IAE- rnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fairmont, in the county of Marion and State of TNest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 0vens, of which the following is a speciication.
This invention relates to stoves and more particularly to revoluble ovens therefor, having primarily for its object to permit of an equal distribution of radiant heat to all parts of the oven to expedite cooking of articles carried in the oven.
Another object is to provide an oven which may be associated with standard types of stoves without materially increasing their cost, and may be readily operated by any one without danger of being burnt, since the oven is operated by means remote therefrom.
f1 further object is to utilize a plurality of article carriers which are detachable, and which are simultaneously operated by the means mentioned above.
fr still further object resides in the provision of a simple and etlicient means which not only aids in the support of the article holders, but likewise, prevents their accidental displacement when the oven is revolved.
Other objectsas well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims forming a part of this specification.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a stove having an oven constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the oven door removed therefrom, Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the oven, Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of my improved device showing the spur-gear in operative connection with the teeth on the base of the oven frame, whereby the latter is rotated when the spur-gear is operated. In the drawings wherein is illustrated the preferred embodiment of this invention, in order to illustrate the application thereof, a stove 5 is provided `which may be of the usual or any desired coniiguration, in the present instance provided with the usual openings G in which my improved oven, generally designated 7, is mounted.
rEhe oven in the present instance comprises a frame` which has a base 8 which is shown as consisting of an annular ring provided with teeth 9 on its inner periphery and having rollers 10 mounted in equidistant relation in the base, thereby permitting the ring to be vrevolved on the lower face of the oven opening 6, the teeth 9 being engaged in mesh with complemental teeth of a spur-gear 11, the latter being in connection with a beveled gear 12, said beveled gear arranged beneath the base of the oven opening 6 and being in mesh with a corresponding beveled gear 153, the gear 13 being in connection with a crank 14 by which it is operated. As shown to advantage in Fig. 1, the crank 1-1 is carried exterior of the stove and beneath the oven opening 6 thereof, so as to eliminate the necessity of persons'plaoing their' handsin connection with the oven frame when it is desired to rotate the same. A spider-web disk 15 is iixedly carried by the ring 8 and forms a supporting base which has extending upwardly therefrom a plurality of uprights 1G, the upper terminals of the latter beingk in engagement with the upper end of the frame 17, the latter comprising a body 17 having arms 17 2 radiating therefrom, the outer terminals of the arms beingv in engagement with the lower face of an annular ring 173, each of said arms being secured to the upper end of one of the uprights 16, as shown to advantage in Fig. 6. f
Each of the uprights 16 is provided with a plurality of notches 18, which are adapted for the reception of spider disks 19, thelatter comprising supports or. holders upon which articles to be cooked are placed.` Each of the disks 19 is preferably made of metal and is detachably associated with the `uprights 16, so as to be readily removed when so desired.
In order to prevent the accidental displacement of the disks 19, a locking bar 20 is provided which is pivotally engaged, as indicated at 21, with a foot 22, the latter being mounted on the supporting disk and having a finger 23 extending from the upper terminal thereof which engages through a complemental opening in the lower of the spider-web disks 19. The bar is provided with notches 24C on its inner margin which correspond to the notches 18 of the uprights 16, thereby assisting in the supporting of the spider-web disks 19, and at the same time, permitting their ready removal when it is so desired.
Slidably mounted on the upper end of the bar 20 is a keeper 25, in the present instance comprising a rod, one end 26 of which is turned at right angles to the body to provide a handle, and the opposite end bent to provide a substantially Ushaped structure 27, which engages over the top 17 of the frame of the oven, said keeper being held from displacement by guides 28, as shown to advantage in Fig. 1. By the provision of the keeper 25, it is seen that the rod 20 is locked in engagement with the upper end 17 of the frame of the oven, at times, in order lto prevent accidental displacement of the disks 19 when the oven is rotated. To prevent accidental displacement of articles which are placed on the disks 19, semicircular rods 29 are associated with certain of ytheuprights 16, between the disks 19, said rods also bracing the members 16 from displacement.
In operation, assuming that the kbar 20 has been swung out of engagement with the disksr19 and articles havebeen placed on the latter, the bar 20 is then returned to its upright position and having the notches 24 thereof engaged with the disks 19, as shown to advantage in Fig. 4:, the U-shaped end 27 of the keeper 25 being engaged over the top of the frame 17, permitting the oven to be rotated without danger of the disks 19 being displaced. In order torotate the oven frame, pressure is exerted on the crank 14 which imparts motion to the spur-gear 11, transmitting motion to the ring 8, the `latter in turncausing the rotation of the frame 17 in view of the fact that the supporting disk 15 is fixedly secured to the ring S. The disk 15 is pivotally mounted on an axis 30, the latter being mounted on the bottom of the oven opening 6, thereby causing the oven to operate in a predetermined plane at all times, at the same time, preventing its bodily displacement. In removing articles from the disks 19, and 15, the keeper 25 is iirst disengaged after which thebar 20 is swung outwardly beyond the stoveand the article is removed from the disks 19. Should itpbe engaged from the linger 23, therebyvdisengaging the foot 22.
It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings co1nprehend only the general and preferred embodiment of my invention and that `various. minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be made within the scope ofthe appended claims and without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention. y
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as ynew and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with a stove, a revoluble oven therefor including a frame, said frame comprising a base having a plurality of uprights extending therefrom, the upper terminals of the latter being engaged with a circular member, spider-web disks detachably carried by said uprights, and means for locking said disks in engagement with said uprights to prevent the accidental 'displace'- ment of said disks, and permitting of their expeditious removal at the optionofthe operator.
2. In combination with a stove, an oven therefor including a frame revolubly associated with the stove, said frame comprisingy .a base having uprights extending therefrom,
the latter being in connection with a circular member at their upper terminals, means in kconnection with said base and being operable remote from said oven to operate said frame, disks carried by said uprights, and a locking bar in connection with the base'of said frame adapted to aid in the support of said disks and prevent their accidental displacement during the rotation of the frame.
