To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR F.'SOHOFIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stafford Springs, county of Tolland, State of Connecticut, have invented an Improvement in Lug-Strap Holders, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a specification, like characters on the drawing representing like parts.

This invention relates to lug strap holders for looms and it has for its object to provide a novel lug. strap holder which will hold the lug strap in proper position in all positions of the picker stick without placing any undue strain on the lug strap,-which will permit the lug strap to maintain its natural position in all positions of the picker stick, which can be applied to the picker stick without boring any holes therein and therefore without weakening it in any way, and which has many other advantages, all as will be more fully hereinafter described.

In order to give an understanding of my invention I have illustrated in the drawings a selected embodiment thereof which will now be described, after which the novel features will be pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a portion of a loom showing one of the picker sticks with my improved lug strap holder; Fig. 2 is an edge view of the picker stick; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view showing the lug strap holder and indicating in full and dotted lines different positions which it may assume as the picker stick is moving. Fig. 1 is a section on the line ww, Fig. 3.

I have shown at 1 a portion of a loom frame and at 2 a portion of the rock shaft to which the picker stick 3 is pivoted.

4.- is the usual lug strap which encircles the picker stick and which is connected to the arm 5 which is pivoted to the loom frame and is actuated by the picking cam 6 as usual.

The parts thus far described are or may be such as are commonly found in looms and form no part of my present invention.

The common practice at present is to employ a lug strap holder for holding the lug strap in position which consists of a loop of leather or canvas attached to the back of the picker stick and through which the lug strap passes.

strap holder to take the place of the loop heretofore employed and which will permit the lug strap to assume at all times its proper position without placing any unnecessary strain upon the picker stick and which can be secured to the picker stick without weakening the latter. The lug'strap holder comprises a plate or arm 7 which lies alongside of the picker stick 3 and at itslower end is secured to a clamping device comprising a clamping plate 8 which lies against the picker stick, anda U-shaped clip 9 that embraces the picker stick and the arms of which extend through the plate 8, said plate being clamped against the picker stick by nuts 10 screwed to the arms of the clip. Pivotally connected'to the plate 7 is a lug-strap-holding member 11 in the form of a plate having extending laterally therefrom two rounding projections 1:2 and 13, said projections bein arranged with their convex faces toward each other. This holding member 11 is pivotally connected to the plate 7 by means of a pivotal pin 1a which is shown as extending through a slot 15 formed in the holding member thereby permitting the holding member to move longitudinally of the picker stick as well as to turn about the pivot 14. The holding member is provided at a point below the stem 15 with a laterallyextendin lug 16 to which one end of a spring 1? is secured, the other end of said spring being secured to a lug 18 extending from the plate 7 The spring 17 tends normally to hold the holding plate 11 in parallelism with the plate 7 and the picker stick 3, but the connection between the holding member and the plate is such that said holding member can swing either into the full or dotted line position Fig. 8. The lug strap 4 encircles the picker stick as usual, and one side of the lug strap passes between the projections 12 and 13, as shown best in Figs. 1 and 2. The projections 12 and 13 serve to hold the lug strap in proper position and because of the yielding pivotal connection between the holding member 11 and the plate 7 said holding member is permitted to swing slightly as the picker stick is operated so as to obviate any binding or cramping of the lug strap.

The device, it will be noted, can be attached to the picker stick without boring any holes therein which would tend to weaken the latter. The holding member 11 follows the motion of the lug strap so that member 11 will turn slightly above its pivot,

thus-preventing any cramping or binding of v the "lug strap on the picker stick. The device is also readily adjusted on the picker stick to bring the lug strap. at any desired height. 7

While I have illustrated herein a selected embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to be'limited to the constructional features shown.

I claim:

1. In a lug strap holder, the combination with a plate adapted to be clamped to the picker 'stick, of a holding member pivoted to said plate and provided with two laterally-extending projections between which the lug strap is received, and a springacting on said holding member and tending to hold it in central position.

2.
