T 0 at whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN PETERSEN, a subject of the King of Denmark, residing at Portland, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Furniture, of which the following is a specification.

'In many small houses, flats and apart ments it becomes an important question what to do with the furniture and furnishings which have only occasional use.

The object of the present invention is to provide in one unitary structure an article of furniture in which several occasionally used articles are combined with an article in general use.

In the drawings herewith accompanying and making a part ofthis application Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved combination furniture combined for use in connection with laundry work; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same folded for use as a chair or seat; Fig. 3 shows an ironing board adapted to be used in connection with the article; Fig. 4 is a detail view of the latch which locks the wringer in an upright position, and Fig. 5 is a detail to show the bracket for supporting the end of the ironing board.

In the drawings which are presented to illustrate a very convenient embodiment of my invention there is shown a main frame substantially rectangular in form comprising legs 1, connecting bars 2 at the top and tie rods 3, 3 3 the rear legs being provided with vertical extensions 4:. Pivotally mounted between the rear legs of said frame on tie rod 3 is an L-frame' comprising arms 5 and 6 in pairs substantially at right angles to each other and tie rods 7 and 7 Pivotally secured to the upper ends of arms 5 by hinges 9 is a wringer 10 which may be of any suitable make and which alone forms no part of my invention. Pivotally secured to tie rod 7 is a support for the free end of arms 6 of the L-frame comprising legs 11 connected by a tie rod 12. Connecting tie rod 12 and tie rod 3 is a'link 13 substantially parallel with arms 6 and adapted to maintain legs 11 substantially vertical in all positions.

The wringer is adapted to be locked in operative position by latches 141 pivotally attached to the wringer as at 14 so as to engage pins 15 on arms 5, the latches being located on the side of the wringer opposite said hinges. forms, as it were, an extension to arms 5, the wringer in operative position being shown in Fig. 1, and one of the locking latches which maintain the wringer in oper' ative position being shown in Fig. 4. The bars 2 of the main frame and arms 6 are adapted to support a clothes basket and tub respectively.

To adapt the article for use as an ironing board the latches 1 1 are released and the wringer is turned on its hinges downwardly against arms 5. In one end of the ironing board 15 which may have anoifset plate 16 are latch pins 17 and when the ironing board is placed in position above the ends of the arms 5 and wringer 10, the latches 14 are adapted to swing into engagement with pins 17, thus supporting one end of the ironing board. The other end of the ironing board is supported by a bracket 18 pivotally mounted on tie rod 7 in arms 6 and legs 11, the bracket being rotatable on said rod to vertical position, as shown in Fig. 3. Said bracket is provided on the ends with hooks 19 adapted to engage a cooperating undercut cleat 20 on the under side of the opposite end of the ironing board. A spring 21 tends constantly to turn the bracket on its pivot back to closed position and incidentally to hold the hooked end of the bracket 18 in engagement with the cleat on the ironing board, thus effectually preventing displacement. One arm of the spring extends down and engages rod 12 and the other end is anchored to the bracket. The two arms of the bracket 18 are connected by a tie bar 21. to give them rigidity.

When the device is used as a chair the wringer-is folded and the L-frame is turned on its pivot until arms 5 are upright or in the position shown in Fig. 2, the wringer and arms 5 falling into opening 22 in the frame. In the upper front corners of the main frame, preferably on the outside, are angle grooves 23 having a down offset 24 at the rear end. A seat 25 is provided with downwardly extending flanges 26, one on each side, and with pins 27 which project into and travel in said angle grooves, whereby the seat may, from the position shown in Fig. 1, be raised vertically until the pins reach the angles of the grooves, then tipped In this position the wringer to a horizontal position and then moved tion. I claim: I

1. In an article of the class described, a main frame, an L-frame pivotally attached to the back ofthe main frame, a wringer pivotally attached to one arm of the L-frame,

In an article of the class described, a main frame,an L-frame pivotally attached to the back of the main frame, a Wringer piv otally attached to one arm of the L-frame, pivoted latches on said wringer, a support pivotally attached to the remote end of the other arm of the L-frame, a spring controlled bracket pivotally mounted on said support adapted to be turned upwardly and provided with hooks, said hooks and latches being adapted to be arranged to engage and support an ironing board, and a seat on the main frame adapted to have horizontal and vertical movement relative thereto.

6. In an article of the class described, a main frame, an L-frame pivotally attached to the back of the main frame, a Wringer pivotally attached to one arm of the L-frame, a support for the remote end of the other arm of the L -frame, a seat on the main frame adapted to have horizontal and vertical movement relative thereto and means for automatically locking the seat against accidental displacement while in horizontal position.
