LYNCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trinity, in the county of Trinity and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Track- Cleaners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exactv description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in track cleaners and the principal object of the invention is to provide a track cleaner particularly adapted for use in saw mills, planing mills and the like, where it is necessary to keep tracks clear of shavings, saw dust and the like.

Another object of the invention is to provide a. track cleaner which has removable and renewable plugs so that the wear on the plugs may be taken up to insure the proper position of the cleaner with relation to the wheels, of the car on which the device is used.

A further object of the invention is to provide a cleaner wherein plugs are provided which may be renewed and which may be formed of a suitable wear resisting material.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a body for the cleaner which is so arranged as to permit the plugs to be easily renewed.

lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of a track cleaner constructed in accordance with this invention showing the same applied to a, wheel. Fig. 2 is a front view in elevation of the cleaner showing the same attached to apair of wheels and axles. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view on line 3 3.of Fig. 2. Fig. 4: is a top plan view of atrack cleaner and wheel, and Fig. 5 is a detailperspective view of one of the plugs.

Referring now to the drawings by characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates the track to be cleaned while the numeral 2 designates the car wheel. This car Wheel is mounted on the usual axle 3 and is sur rounded by the cleaner which is designated Specification of Letters Patent.

This track cleaner comprises the two separate bodies 5 and 6 which are formed with the recesses 7, the end walls of which are curved to conform to the curvature of the wheel. These recesses 7 are to receive the wheel and the two separate sections 5 and 6 are held together by the bolts 8 which also serve as supports for the plugs which will be more fully hereinafter described.

Formednear each end of the body are the semi-circular recesses 9 which aline with each other and form openings for the reception of the plugs 10, which plugs comprise the cylindrical body 11 having formed therein suitable longitudinal slots 12 for the reception of the bolts 8. These plugs may be formed of Babbitt-metal or any other suitable wear resisting material and it will be apparent that due to the longitudinal slot 12, the plugs may be vertically adjusted to their respective openings and held in such adjusted position by the bolts 8.

It will be apparent from the foregoing that in use the device is placed in position on the track so that the wheel 2 is received within the recess 7 formed by sections 5 and 6 and when in this position the plugs 10 will engage the upper surface of the track and space the lower surface of the bodies 5 and 6 from the track. In this way it will be seen that wear on the bodies will be prevented and as the plugs are worn down at the lower ends, they may be adjusted by loosening the nuts of the bolts 8 and sliding the plugs farther in. After the plugs have been worn at their lower ends to the limit they may be removed and reversed so that the upper ends will engage the track and it will thus be seen that a practically unlimited number of adjustments is obtainable. It will also be apparent that after the plugs become entirely worn out, a new set of plugs may be substituted and thereby wear on the body of the device is eliminated.

\Vhile in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the combination and arrangement of parts as will fall within the spirit and scope of the ap pended claims.

What is claimed is 1. A. track cleaner of the character described including a body, and removable plugs adjustable Within said body to engage the track and hold the body clear of the track. '7

2. A track cleaner of the character described including a body, plugs Within the body to hold the same clear of the track, and means to adjustably secure the plugs Within the body. 7 a

A .track cleaner of the character described comprising a pair of cooperating bodies, each of said bodies being formed with a recess, the recesses cooperating and forming an opening for the reception of the tie Wheels, plugs Within the bodies and means to'adjustably hold the plugs in position in the bodies to hold the bodies spaced from the track.

4:. A track cleaner of the character described including a pair of cooperating 7 and through the arcuate recesses, the said plugs having slots for the reception of the bolts and nuts on the ends of the bolts to adjustably hold the plugs in their various positions in the body.
