Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented 111115127, 19-15.
Application filedMarch 19, 1914. -Seria1No.'825,9 26.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that'I, JACOB HARRrsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of. Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others, skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to tables and more particularly to kitchen tables having an ironing board attached thereto.
An object of this invention is to provide an improved means for mounting an ironing board upon the table so that said ironing board may be conveniently swung to operative position, for use as an ironing board, to inverted position whereby the bottom of said ironing board or its support forms an extended leaf from the edge of said table, or said ironing board and its support may be swung below the edge of the table to concealed position.
A further object of this invention is to provide means for mounting an ironing board upon a swinging leaf, so that said ironing board may be rigidly supported by said leaf, or swung to expose said ironing board to enable a tubular garment being placed thereover.
Further objects will be apparent from the following specification, appended claims and drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the table with the ironing board attached thereto, showing the ironing board in operative position, Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the table showing the ironing board swung to in-operative position, Fig. 3 is a plan view of the table showing the support for the ironing board as an extended leaf from said'table, and Fig. 4: is a sectional view through the supports for said ironing board, showing the ironing board mounted to be swung to receive a tubular garment.
In a construction of a table of this type, it is desired to combine an ironing board with the table in such a manner as to permit said ironing board to be moved into operative position, to cause the support for said ironing board to become a leaf for increasing the area of top of said table, and to allow said ironing board and its support to be swung into an in-operative position.
Referring to the dnawingsin which simi-- l'ar. reference numeralsindicate similar parts throughout the several views, there-is shown a table 1010f the usual construction which has a bar 11. secured to each end of. the top thereof. This bar has one end of the link 12 bar has the end thereof reduced in thickness and hooked as at 14:, to enable a recess 15 in each of the links 12 to receive the hooked end 14. The opposite end of each of the links 12 is pivotally connected to a bar 16 which is secured to each end of the swinging leaf or board 17 The pivot point 13 of the link 12 is positionedwith respect to the rear edge of the table to cause the hinged connection of the link 12 to the bar 16 to coincide with the center of an are including the top of the table the rear edge thereof and the underside of said table in one position, and the link 12 is of such a length that when the ironing board is swung to the position shown in Fig. 1, the front edge of the support for the ironing board is flush with the front edge of the table top.
The leaf 17 has supports 18 and 19 secured thereto and to these supports is secured an ironing board 20. The support 18 has a socket 221 secured to one face thereof and this socket receives a stem 22 carried by a plate 23 which is secured to the underside of the board 20. By this construction it is apparent that the ironing board may be swung from over the support 21 to enable a. tubular garment being placed thereon. The support 21 has a socket 24 formed therein in which one end of the trip 25 engages when said ironing board is positioned properly over said support.
The leaf 17 is provided with a turn button or the like 26, by which said leaf may be maintained in extended position when it is desired to increase the area of the top of the table.
The operation of the device is apparent from the foregoing so it is thought that no further description is necessary.
Various modifications may he made within the scope of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof.
Having thus described my invention, I claim v 1. A table comprising in combination with a fixed table top, a leaf connected thereto, a link having one end thereof, pivotally connected to the end of the table, a swinging pivotally connected thereto as at'13, andthis I leaf having its rear edge pivotally connected with said link, said link permitting said leaf to bear upon said top near the front edge, near the rear edge, to be inverted to form a continuation of said top, or to swing under distant from the bight of said-hook, said link being notched tohave the notch register with the bight of the hook in one position of the hook, supplemental bars pivoted to the opposite ends of said links, and a swinging 15 leaf supported by said supplemental bars, said linksenabllng said swinglng leaf to rest upon the forward or rear edge of said relatively fixed table top or said links allowing said swinging leaf to swing over the rear 20 edge of said table top.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JACOB HARRISON.
