FREDERICK KEES, 0F MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
CNCRETE-COLUMN CLAMP.
'Li/tasas.
Application filed J'uly 26, 1913.
To all whomz't may concern:
Be it known that l, FREDERICK KEES, a citizen of the United States, resident of l\f`linneapolis, county of Hennepin, State ot Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concrete-Column Clamps, of which the following is a specification. y
lThe object of my invention is to provide a clamp for holding the forni of a. concrete column in place during the setting of the concrete.
A further object is to provide a clamp of simple construction and one in which all the parts are interchangeable, so that no titting or selection of the different sections of-- the clamp is required preparatory to putting it on a form.
@ther objects of the invention Will appear from the following detailed description.
The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings forrning part of this specification, Figure l is a. plan sectional view through a column form illustrating my invention applied thereto, Fig. 2 is a perspective View of two parte or 1nembers of the clamp.
In 'the drawing, 2 represents a wooden form for a concrete column of any preferred construction. The concrete is poured into this form in the usual way and for the purpose ot clamping and holding the form securely in place during the pouring and setting of the concrete l provide clamps at intervals thereon. This clai'np, as shown, consists of a series of bars 3 having longitudinal slots 4t at one end arranged at suitable intervals and extending lengthwise of the bars. The other end of each bar is provided with a loop that is preferably formed by turning the end of the bar back- Ywardly upon itself in a plane substantially parallel with the main portion of the bar and spaced therefrom to form an open loop 5, into which the slotted end of the adjacent bar is inserted. Each bar is provided wit-h a Wedge 6`to fit into any one of the slots therein, one edge of the Wedge engaging the end wall of the slot into which it .is in- Serted and the other bearing on the outer Specification of Letters Patent.

'forni By providing a series of these slots in each bar, the clamp is readily adapted for forms of different sizes. y
The bars are all made alike and are interchangeable, and it is unnecessary to make any selection when the clamp is being placed on. a form. The ends of the bars are insel-ted into the loops of the adjacent bars, as indicated in Fig. 1, and when the Wedges are driven into the slotsthe bars Will be forced inwardly on all sides of the form, clamping it securely and holding it rigidly against the lateral pressure of the concrete. The wedges will have a bearing surface above and belovv7 the bars into which they are inserted, and will be guided by these two-point bearings and held in an upright position as they are driven into the slots.
I prefer also to provide notches 7 in one edge of each loop to receive the edges of the wedges 6, and I am thus able to enlarge the clamp 'a distance equal to the depth of the notches without the necessity of moving the wedges from one slot to another. In other words, by turning Ithe clamping bars over or reversing them, the slotted edges of the loops may be presented to the Wedges instead ofv the straight edges and the clamp slightly enlarged to provide for a greater range of adjustment.
I claim as my invention t* Avforrn clamp comprising bars each of whichhas a loop' formed therein at one end thereof adapted to receive latwise one end of an adjacent bar extending at right angles thereto,.the end of each bar opposite the loop having a series of spaced slots formed therein which slots extend through the bars in a direction at right angles to the plane of the loops one edge ofthe bar at the end having the loop being substantially in line with one side edge of the bar while the other edge `ot the bar at the end having the loop is cut away so ,that said edge formed thereby is out of line Withl the other side edge of said bar and a wedge for each bar adapted to fit within one of said slots and engage either the side edge'of the loop or the edge 'formed by cutting away of the bar. Y
lnfwitness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 22d day of July 1913.
A FREDERICK KEES. Witnesses:
GENEVIEVE E.. SonENs'EN,
EDWARD A.
