. Specification of Letters Patent. PatentedJ ly 2'7, 1915 Application tiled September 14, 1914. Serial No. 861,712. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALLEN EARLY, a citi-.
zen of the United States, residing atAIna' rillo, in the county of Potter and State of Texas, have invented certain new use; ful Improvements in Rope Guides and Protectors, of which the following,.,is a specification. Y
The present invention relates toimprovements in rope guides andprotectors.
An object of the invention resides. in the provision of a rope guide and protector.
especially adapted for use in connection with apparatus for unloading grain from cars, to prevent the rope from wearing during its passage around the door jamb of the car, and also to prevent friction during such passage of the rope, thereby making it possible to use the shovel with the application of but comparatively little power.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a rope guide and protector so constructed that the same can be removably applied to the door jamb of a car and which can be removed when not in use.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a rope guide and protector which includes a rectangular frame having spaced horizontal flanges for supporting the rollers and oppositely extending side flanges for receiving fastening elements by which the frame can be secured to the door jamb of a car.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a rope guide and protector which will be comparatively simple and in expensive, reliable and efficient in use, and readily applied to the door jamb of a car.
With the above and other objects in view the present invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, it being understood that various minor changes in the specific details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application: Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional'view of a grain car, showing my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the rope protector and guide removed showing a portion of the door jamb in dotted lines.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by similar characters of reference throughout'the several views, the numeral 5 designates a portion of a grain car having a door opening 6 formedin one side thereof.
Theusual unloading apparatus is indicated by the numeral 7 and consists of a shovel 8 and operating rope 9 which is drawn. by any suitable source of power (not shown in the drawing), but positioned outside of the car.
My improved rope guide and protector 10 is detachably secured to one side of the door jamb 11 and consists preferably of a rectangular metallic frame 12 having the opposite vertical side members 13 and upper and lower horizontal connecting members 14.
The flanges 19 are formed with threaded openings, 20, for receiving the thumb screws 21 or other suitable fastening devices which can be forced into engagement with the opposite sides of the jamb, thereby retaining the frame 10 in its proper position against any undesired displacement.
Obviously when the rope 9 is placed in engagement with the rollers 18, the latter will act as a guide for the rope and also protect the same against any wear in its constant passage over the door jamb, during the unloading of the grain.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be manifest that rope guide and protector is provided which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device.
Having thus fully described the invention.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. In a rope guide and protector, a frame comprising opposite side members and upper and lower connecting members, all of said. members being spaced to provide the frame with a central opening, spaced upper andv lower flanges on the frame, securing flanges on the frame, and rollers journaled'in said upper and vlower flanges and arranged along opposite sides of the opening in the frame" 3; In a rope guide and protector, the combination of a rectangular frame including opposite side members and upper and lower connecting members, flanges formed upon the side members, fastening devices passing through said flanges for removably connecting the frame to the door jamb of a 1 grain car or the like, horizontal flanges formedupon the connecting members, said flanges having bearings provided therein adjacent the ends thereof, and rollers journaled in the bearingsand extendingbeyond the outer edges o f'the side members, of the frame. l I
In testimony whereof-lath; my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
