OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
FUSE-CARTRIDGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
. Patented J lily 20, 1930.5..
Application-filed June 22, 1914. Serial No. 846.550.
To all whom it may Conc-ern Be it known that I. Gnomi: E. FISHER, citizen of the United States. residing at Cleveland, in the count;7 of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fuse-Cartridges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fuses. and par* ticularly to that class known as fuse cartridges, which can be readilv renewed or inserted in position when desired for use.
It comprises a fusible wire or other me1nber located in a casing and connected to contact terminals at the ends of the casing in a new and improved manner.
he invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which;
Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section, of the fuse. Fig. 2 is a. partial side section. Fig. 3 is a detail of the end of the holder.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 4 indicates a hollow tubular holder or casing preferably made of fiber. Within this is a fusible wire 7, and the tubular holder is filled withl powdered or porous insulating material indicated at 9, which surrounds the fuse wire. This wire is hooked at its ends as indicated at 7a to engage over hanger plates 6 which are'notched as at 6a where the hooks engage. These plates are mounted in the ends of the tube, the ends of the in the tube. The ends of the tube are closed by metal caps 5 fitting thereover and around the ends of the plates 6, and these caps are provided with contact points or rivets 5*l which fasten to the caps the ends of contact plates 5a fitting within the tube beside the wire 7. The caps are fastened on the tube by screws 8 which ext-end through the flanges of the cap and through the tube, and press at their inner ends against the plates 5a, holding them in Copies oi this patent :may be obtained vpieces fitting in said for ave cents each, by addressing the close Contact with the wire 7. The screws thus serve the double purpose offastening the caps in position and holding the plates in Contact with the wire.
he fuse wire mav be renewed at any time b v taking ofi' the caps. pulling out the fuse wire and putting a new wire in place, bending the ends thereof over the holding plates 6. and the other parts of the cartridge do not have to be thrown away.
1. A. fuse comprising a tubular casing with slots at the ends. cross pieces resting in said slots. a wire extending in the casing between said cross pieces, the ends of the Tire being in 'supporting engagement with said cross pieces, and caps on the opposite ends of the casing provided with Contact devices bearing against the wire. l
2. A fuse comprising a tube having slots extending inwardl)Y from its ends, cross slots and extending across the tube, a wire in the tube having its ends hooked over said cross pieces, caps on the ends of the casing, covering said slots and covering the ends of the cross pieces to hold the latter in the slots, and conducting connections to said wire.
3. A fuse comprising a tubular casing, cross pieces at the ends of said casing. a tu sible member supported within the tube b v said cross pieces, removable caps on the ends of the tube, a Contact plate projecting from each cap against said member, and a fastening screw extending through the cap and tube and bearing against the plate to hold the same against said member.
In testimony whereof, l aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE E. FISHER.
