To all whom it may concern I Be it known that I, OLIVER M. EVANS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brewster, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuspidor Lifters and Carriers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements .in cuspidor lifters and carriers in which a frame is provided, made up of a series. of bars spaced apart and formedin pairs, the pairs of bars being movable with reference to each other.
The objects of the present invention are,
first, to provide a simple device whereby a be lifted and carried or 1 single cuspidor can a number of cuspidors can be lifted and car ried, second, to provide for the movement of the pairs of bars whereby the cuspidors can be clasped and released. I

In the accompanying drawing, 1 represents the pivoted lift-bars, which are formed in pairs, the bars of each pair are held together and in proper spaced relationship with reference to each other by means of the upper or top tie bars 2and the grip or holdling bars 3, said'tie and grip bars being riv-,
eted or otherwise attached, the attachment being such that a rigid connection will be made as between the lift bars 1 and the tie and grip bars 2 and 3. The top or upper ends of the lift bars 1 are pivotally connected, said pivotal connection being such that the opposite pairs of lift bars are free to turn upon their pivotal points, thereby allowing the bottom or lower ends ofthe lift bars 1, together with the grip bars 3 to come and go to and from each other. To the lift bars 1 are pivotally connected the links 5 which links are pivoted together at to those skilled in'the art" their inner ends and to said inner ends are also pivotally connected the sliding bars 6. The grip or lifting bars 3 should be curved as illustrated in, Fig. 1, by which arrangement the cuspidors will be better held against displacement when the grip bars are brought into contact with the cuspidors. In use the handle Sand the bar 9 are grasped by the hand and fingers, at which time the handles can be forced toward the bar 9 either by a pull upon the bar 9 or a push upon the handle 8. Said push or pulling'action will move the lower ends of each pair of the lifting bars 1 together with the grip bars 3 away bring them in such relationship with reference to each other that they can be placed upon opposite sides of a cuspidor, after which an upwardpull "of the handle 6 will draw the grip bars, together and into position to embraceand clamp or grip a cuspidor.

For the purpose of providing room for the top or uppermost cuspidor when a number of cuspidors are to be carried as illustrated in Fig. 2, the links 5 should be curved so that the proper amount of room will be provided for the funnel portion of the cus pidor. 1
It will be noticed that each of the grip or bars 3 is provided near either extremity and upon the inner face with a button or lug 10 formed of rubber or some similar' material. By means of these buttons it will be possible to obtain a better grip upon a cuspidor.
Although the drawings and above specification disclose the best mode in which I have contemplated embodying my invention I desire to be not limited to the details of such disclosure, for, in the further practical application of my invention, many changes in form and construction may be made, as circumstances require or experience suggests, without departing from the spirit of the in- VGI1i3l011,Witl1in the scope of the appended claims.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the character described, the combination of lifting bars formed in pairs, top bars adapted to hold the top or upper ends of the pairs of lifting bars in spaced relationship with reference to each other, said lifting bars pivotally attached to said top bars, links pivotally connected to the pairs of lifting bars and to each other, sliding bars pivotally connected to the links, a handle connected to said sliding bars and a fixed bar located directly below the handle and grip bars connected to the bottom or lower ends of the lifting bars.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination of lifting bars formed in Copies of this patent may be obtained for pairs, top bars adapted to hold the top or upper ends of the pairs of lifting bars in spaced relationship with reference to each other, said lifting bars pivotally attached to said top bars, curved links pivotally'connected to the pairs of lifting bars and to each other, sliding bars pivotally connected to the curved links, a handle connected to said sliding bars and a fixed bar located directly below the handle and grip bars connected to the bottom or lower ends of the liftingbarsi In a device of the character described, the combination oflifting bars formed in pairs, top bars adapted to hold the top or upper ends of the pairs of lifting bars in spaced relationship with reference to each other, said lifting bars pivotally attaci'ied to said top bars, links pivotally connected to the pairs of lifting bars and to each other, sliding bars pivotally connected to the links, a handle connected to said sliding bars, and a fixed bar located directly below the handle, grip bars connected to the bottom or lower ends of the lifting bars, and lugs formed of friction material located upon the inner faces of said grip bars.
4. In a device of the character the combination of lifting bars formed pairs, top bars adapted to hold the top or upper ends of the pairs oflifting bars in spaced relationship with reference to each other, said lifting bars pivotally attached to said top bars, curved links pivotally connected to the pairs of lifting bars and to each other, sliding bars pivotally connected to the curved links, a handleconnected said sliding bars and a fixed bar located directly below the handle, grip bars connected to the bottom or lower ends of the lifting bars, and lugs formed of friction material located upon the inner faces of said grip bars.
