To all /1 am it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES Bnn'rnmr, citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Electric Lamps, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to portable electric lamps such as those adapted to stand on tables 01' the like, and especially to the means for supporting the lamp bulb and shade, and for holding the same at any desired angle.

The fixture comprises or includes a standard and a turning or swivel joint, so constructed that the electric wires extend through the same and are concealed, and the joint is provided with stops which limit the swing of the lamp to a certain extent. The structure has'also certain other advantages with respect to strength and ease of assembling, as will more fully appear from the following description and the accompanying drawings.

Projecting from the ringis a tubular nipple 12 threaded to receive the socket of the lamp 13 as also any suitable holder for the shade 14.

The check pieces are clamped against the sides of the ring or shell 11 by means of a though bolt 13 having a head 14: at one end and a locking nut 15 and ornamental nut 16 the opposite end. The bolt is ad usted to .--":zce sufiie at friction between the meeting surfaces to hold the lamp in any positon to which it may be swung.

It is desirable to restrict the movement of the lamp within certain limits, and for this purpose each flange 10 has a projecting fingcr 17 at the top thereof in position to form a stop by contact therewith of the inner end 18 of the nipple which projects inwardly into the ring 11. The lamp therefore cannot be swung or turned around completely, which might disarrange the electrical connections. The electric wires 20 are led through the standard of one of the arms 8 and thence through the parts of the joint to the lamp, said wires being thus wholly concealed.

For use at writingdesks or the like the lamp can be adjusted to any convenient angle, and the fixture has an ornamental or artistic appearance as well as practical advantages. By removing the bolt 13 the cheek pieces 9 can be sprung apart suificiently to permit the middle part or ring 11 to be slipped in or out, whereby the parts can be readily assembled or removed without breaking any fixed joints.

What I claim as new is:

1. An electric fixture comprising a pair of arms with hollow cheek, pieces at the ends thereof, said pieceshaving' inwardly projecting circular flanges, a hollow ring mounted to turn-on said flanges, between use said cheek pieces, and having a nipple for a lamp socket, and a bolt extending through said cheek pieces and ring and clamping the latterfrictionally between the former, and electric circuit wires extending through one of said arms and cheek pieces, the ring, and the nipple.

2. An electric fixture comprising a pair of hollow arms terminating in hollow cheek pieces closed at their'outer sides and open at their inner sides and each having a circular flange at the inner side thereof, extending around the opening, a hollow turning ring located between said check pieces and fitting upon said flanges, a stop finger projecting from one of the flanges, a lamp socket nipple projecting outwardly from the ring and also having a part projecting into the same in position to strike said finger and Stop the turn of the ring, and a clamping bolt con-- necting the cheek pieces and extending through the ring.
