BREAST-YOKE-S'I'RAP SLIDE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 13, 1915.
Application filed March 13, 1914. Serial No. 825,652.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS A. NOAKES, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Dixon, in the county of Dixon, State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Breast-Yoke-Strap Slides; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 7
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in harness and is particularly directed to breast yoke strap slides.
The object of the present invention resides in the provision of means whereby the breast yoke strap of a harness may be slidably attached to a breast yoke so that the usual frictional wear on the strap is prevented, it being at the same time the object to so secure the strap that it will be subjected to little likelihood of accidental displacement and will be permitted free movement in any desired direction.
A. further object of the invention resides in the provision of such a means which is simply constructed so that it is light in weight and consequently will not annoy the draft animal and so that it may be manufactured at a very low cost.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel combination, formation and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing and particularly pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawing, wherein similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front plan view of the strap slides, secured to a breast yoke and having the breast yoke strap engaged therewith. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of what is shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the accompanying drawing, each of the slide members comprises a strip 5 of metal bent transversely to provide a V-shaped structure. Extending outwardly from the side edges of the strip are flanges 6 and passed through these flanges at their end portions and at their central portions are shafts 7 on which are rotatable non-friction rollers 8'. The slide member is to be held at its central portion as will be described and the breast yoke strap 9 is trained around these rollers so that it is allowed free sliding movement and consequently wear on the strap is prevented.
Displacement of the strap is prevented by shield members which comprise strips 10 of metal having their end portions inwardly directed and lying against the outer faces of the flanges 6. One of these shield members is disposed adjacent each roller and the roller shaft is passed through the inwardly directed ends of the member and headed at 11 whereby all of the parts are held in assembled relation without the necessity of providing any securing means other than provided by the active parts of the device. Thisis an important feature as it conduces to a structure of extreme simplicity.
Each of the slide members is secured to one end portion of a breast yoke 12 by a ring 13 secured in a suitable manner on the breast yoke, the slide member being passed through this ring and loosely held at its bight thereby.
' Thus it is seen that an exceedingly simple structure has been provided which will efficiently perform all of the functions normally required thereof.
What is claimed, is
A device of the class described comprising a substantially \l-shaped body member having its side edges laterally directed to form reinforcing flanges, shafts passed through these flanges at the intermediate and end portion of the member, antifriction rollers on the shafts and substantially U-shaped separate reinforcing and shield members having their arms embracing the free portions of the flanges and secured to said shafts.
In testimony whereof, I aifix my signa ture, in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS A. NOAKES.
Witnesses:
T. J. FLAHERTY, JOHN DAVIDSON.
