FOLDING-CRIB ATTACHMENT FOR BEDS.
Specification of Letters Fatent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV F. SOMMERV, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Jersey City, in the county of End SOD and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Folding- Crih Attachments for Beds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to'folding crib attachments for beds and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a folding crib attachment adapted to be readily applied to the frame of a bed, the parts of the crib being adapted to be folded so that when the crib is not in use it may be moved under the bed and when in use it may be positioned at the side of the bed and connected with the frame thereof.
With the above object in view the invention consists in providing cross bars or tubes upon the side'rails of the bed and a frame having rollers adapted to move along the said cross bars or tubes. Head, foot andside sections are hingedly connected with the said frame and a spring frame is movably mounted in the first mentioned frame. Feet are hingedly connected with the first men tioned frame and carry at their lower ends rollers. A shaft is journaled upon the first mentioned frame and lever mechanisms are operatively connected with the shaft whereby the spring frame is moved vertically with relation to the frame and at the same time the said feet are swung upon their hinge connections with the first mentioned frame.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure l is a transverse sectional view of a bed frame with the crib attachment applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the crib attachment and portions of the bed frame. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of portions of the crib attachment cut on the line 83 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view of the crib attachment and portions of the bed frame cut on the line 44 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view of the crib attachment cut on the line 55 of Fig. 4.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawing the bed frame to which the attachment is applied includes side rails 1 of the usual pattern. Cross bars 2 in the form of tubes connect the side rails 1 of the bed frame together and are held in position by means of nuts 3 which are screw threaded upon the said tubes and which bear against the opposite surfaces of the side rails 1.
The crib frame 4 is provided at two of its corners with hangers 5 which carry at their upper ends journaled rollers 6 which are adapted to travel along the tubes 2. Shafts 7 are carried at the opposite side portions of the crib frame 4 and bell crank levers 8 are journaled upon the said shafts. Links 9 are pivotally connected with the upperends of the bell crank levers 8 and are also pivotally connected with plates 10 i which in turn are secured to the under side of a spring frame 11. Guide rods 12 are mounted upon the crib frame 4 and are slidably received in brackets 13 attached to the spring frame 11. The inner portions of the'guide rods 12 are vertically disposed so that the brackets 13 and the spring frame 11 are caused to move vertically when they are shifted in their positions above the crib frame 4. A shaft 14 is ournaled in the crib frame 4 and extends beyond the ends thereof and is provided with angularly disposed handles 15. A spring 16 is located at one end of the crib frame 4 and is provided with a bend 17 which is adapted to receive one of the handles 15 when the said handle is swung to a vertical position whereby the shaft l4is frictionally held against rotation. Arms 18 are fixed to the shaft 14 and extend beyond the opposite sides thereof and links 19 pivotally connect the outer ends of the arms 18 with the lower ends of the bell crank levers 8. Consequently it will be seen that when the shaft 14 is turned the arms 18 are swung about the axis thereof whereby the links 19 are moved longitudinally and the bell crank levers 8 are rocked whereby the links 9 raise or lower the spring frame 11.
Feet 20 are hingedly connected with the crib frame 4 and are provided at their lower ends with rollers 21 which are adapted to move along the surface of a floor when the said feet 20 are swung down to position approximately at right angles to the horizontal plane of the frame 4. The feet 20 are connected together by a bar 22 and one end of alink 23 is pivoted to the said bar 22 and the other end of the said link is pivoted to an arm 24 which is fixed to the shaft 14. Consequently it will be seen that when the shaft 14 is turned the feet 20 will be swung.
When the spring frame 11 is lowered with relation. to the crib frame 4: the free ends of the feet are swung in. an upward di= rection as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 4:.
End rails are supported above the crib frame 4 and carry hinged members 26 which in turn carry head and foot sections indicated at 27. The said sections are. provided with spring clips 28 which are adapted to beengaged over rods 29 mounted at the sides of the crib section 4 and connected with the same. The said rods 29 are slidably received inthe tubes 2. A side section 30 is pivotally mounted at the outer portion of the framed and the frame 41 is provided with a spring clip 31 which is adapted to engage the side section '30 and hold.the same-in an upright position as shown in Fig. 4-. .From the above description it will be seen that when the parts are in the positions as shown in Fig. 4 and it is desired to slide or. move-the crib attachinent under the frame of the bed to which it is applied the shaft 14 is turnedby using one ofthe handles 15 whereby the spring frame 11 is caused to descendorlower-with relation to the crib frame 4; and at the same time the free. ends of the feet 20. are swung in an upward direction. The clips-28 are then disengaged from the rods29 and the clip 81 is disengaged from the section 30 and the sections 27 and 30 may be swung in a downward direction over the spring frame 11. The frame a and the parts mounted thereon may then bemoved under the frame of the bed at which the side rails 1 are supported and during this movement the rods 29 slide along the tubes 2 and the rollers, 6 move along the upper sides of the said tubes.

In a-. crib.a. crib. frame, a spring frame movably mounted with relation to the crib frame, feet hingedlyconnected with the crib frame, means mountedupon the crib frame for moving the spring frame and means operatively connecting the first mentioned means with the said feet, whereby the feet and spring frame may be moved simultaneously with relation to the crib frame. l 2. .In a crib attachment :1 frame, a spring frame movably mounted above the first mentioned frame, .a shaft journaled upon the first mentioned frame, series of links and levers operatively connecting said shaft with the spring frame, feet hingedly connected with .the first mentioned frame and means'operativelyconnecting the said feet with the said shaft whereby the feet and spring frame maybe moved simultaneously with relation to the crib frame.
