Be it known that 1, CHARLES W. BRAY- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterloo, in the county of Blackhawk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Controlling Mechanism for Mixing-Machines or the like, of which the following is a descrip tion.
My invention belongs to that general class of devices known-as mixing machines, particularly the type known as a tiltable batch tion, depending upon the mixture in the The invention has among its objects the production of a device of the kind described that is simple, convenient, efficient, durable, and satisfactory, that will not easily get out of order, and that may be manufactured at small cost, and used wherever found applicable.
To this end my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of 'parts herein shown and described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, the mixer shown comprises a frame consisting of the parts 1 and 2, which may or may not be mounted on wheels 3, and which carries standards 4, which carry the drum. This drum may be of any desired type, that shown comprising the parts 6 and which form a drum opened at one end and'closed at the other, the drum being rotatably supported on'a shaft 8 carried by the tilting 1 support 5. of securing the same to its support, as this is fully described and claimed in a companion application. It maybe mentioned, however, that the drum is preferably rotated by means of a driving pinion 10 engaging with the drum flange 9, formed with teeth for engagement therewith, the pinion being driven from a sprocket wheel 11, or any equivalent for the purpose. 1
The drum and its support are maintained in the desired position for mixing, or tilted to dump the mixture, preferably b one or more arms 15. As most clearly s own in Fig. 3, the end of the support 5 opposite the pinion 10 is provided with an extension 14, forming a stub -shaft either integral 18 is preferably secured to the plate 16 by a plurality of bolts, as shown, three,-l9, 20 and 21.. The bolt 19 forms a pivot point, one plate, as shown, the plate 18, being formed with slots 22, so that plate 18 may be adjustable relative-to plate 16 about the bolt 19, as a center. "Washers 23 may be pro vided if desired. There may be any number of arms '15 three'being convenient for the purpose, and they may be secured to plate 18 in any convenient way. As most clearly illustrated in Fig. 2, the plate 18 is formed with sockets 24, one for each arm, and the arms secured therein by set screws 25, or in any equivalent manner. Carried. by the standard 4 is a bracket 26, formed wlth an f extendedpart 27, (Fig. 4-.) forked-to receive a latch 28. The latch 28 is pivotally secured at 29 to the bracket, and formed with a hook 30, adapted to engage with one arm 15, as shownin' Fig. -1, when the drums in ,mixing position.

making plates 16 and 18 the same as one piece. In dumping, the latch 28 is moved to release the arm 15, and the drum tilted to the opposite side of the standards -to discharge the contents. It may be mentioned, in this connection, that the bracket 26 forms a convenient stop for the opposite arm 15, limiting the movement of the drum. The attachment described permits the drum to be tilted at a steeper angle when a wet mixture is mixed in the drum than when a dry mixture, experience having demonstrated that there are occasions when it is desirable to have the adjustment varied as described. While a drum-is described open at one end and closed at the other, any tilted type of drum may, of course, be employed. In Fig. 1 is shown auxiliary supporting means for the drum through the shaft 8, this consisting of a plurality of rolls 32, suitably carried from the frame. However, this device is the subject matter of a companion application, and need not, therefore, be described in detail in this application.
Having thus described my invention, it is obvious that various immaterial modifications may be made in the same without departing from the spirit of my invention; hence I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact form, construction, arrangement, or combination of parts herein shown and described, or uses mentioned.
\Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination of a suitable frame, standards carried thereby, a tiltable U- shaped member pivotally carried by said standards, a drum rotatably carried by said member, a plate rigidly secured to said member, a second plate adjustably secured to said first mentioned plate, an arm carried by said second plate, and a coo aerating latch member for said arm carrie by one of said standards.
2. The combination of a suitable frame, standards carried thereby, a tiltable U- shaped member, pivotally carried by said standards, a drum rotatably carried by said member, a plate rigidly secured to said member, a second plate adjustably secured to said first mentioned plate, and an arm carried by said second plate.
