Specification of Letters Patent., Patented June 15, lig.
Application filed November 9, 1912. i Serial No. 736,383.
hollow tile ,disposed at angles to rows bfhollow tile in adjacent panels. Each panel of concrete joists and rows of hollow tile is supported on two beams, and the beams distribute the load in four directions on each supporting column' for the beams. Reinforcing and tying members are made use of which are disposed diagonally and over the column, with terminals bent and disposed in substantially parallel planes, and embedded in the concrete joists. v
Additional objects of the invention will appear inthe following complete specification, in which the preferred form of the invention is disclosed. .y
In the drawings similar characters of reference' indicate corresponding parts in all the views, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view showing a floor in course of construction in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 yis a sectional 'View on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 8 is a sectional d View on the line 3*-3 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1; v
and Fig. 5 is a sectional View showing a modified form of the invention.
As will be seen by referring to Fig. 1 of the drawings the panels 5 are constructed each with a plurality of rows of tiles 6, each row of tilesbeing spaced from adjacent rows of tiles, and concrete joists 7 being formed between these rows of tiles 6. These concrete joists 7 are reinforced by 'reinforcing members 8,
which are provided in pairs, as shown in Fig. ll
of the drawings, the lower reinforcing n1em. berAS being preferably straight, and eX- tending from the concrete `ioists 7 between the rows of tiles 6 to the concrete beam 9, in which it is embedded. The other reinforcing member Sb, which is tied to the reinforcing member 8 by a metal clamp, or band l0, is disposed. upwardlyv from the metal clamp or bandso that its terminal 11 will be set oil from the terminal 12 of the reinL for its object to provide forcing member 8, the terminals 11 and 12 being disposed substantially parallel with each other. The terminal 11 extends beyond the terminal The end 13 of the panel 5a is supported by the beam 1d, the rows of tile 6 in the panel 51 being disposed in the direction at right angles to the direction in which the rows of tile 6 extend in the panel 5, so that the end .lo the panel 5b is supported by the beam 16. llhe rows of tile 6 in the panel 5, which is at the left of the panel 5b, and is separated therefrom by the beam 16, extend in directions parallel with the rows of tile 6 in the panel 5a. The end 17 of the panel 5 is therefore supported by the beam 1d at the left of the column 16, the end 13 of 'the panel 5a being supported by the said beam 14 at the right of this column 18. The rows of tile 6 in the panell 5c extend in planes substantially parallel with the rows of tile 6 in the panel 5d, and the end 19 of the panel 5d,'supported by the beam 16. It
will therefore be seen that each beam at each side of the supporting column llfwill support only one end of one of the panels `5, the other end of the panels 5 being supported in the same manner with beams which are shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings,
these reinforcing tie members which are provided.` in pairs, extend completely over the'top of the concrete pier 18, the ends 21 of the reinforcing tie members being disposed Vdownward and outward, andthe terminals V22 of thereinforoing tie members being bent and disposed in the joists 7, as shown in the drawings.
One set of ends 22 of a pair of reinforcing tie members ,20 is lbent substantially parallel with the other set of ends, so that the ends may be disposed between the rows of tile 6 in the joists 7. There are two pairs of these reinforcing tie members 20, which are disposed substantially at right angles to each other, over each of the columns 18.
The beams 14 and 16 have reinforcing members 23 and 2l, the reinforcing members 23 being substantially straight, while the reinforcing members 24 have opposite portions 2: with terminals 26, which are disposed substantially parallel with the reinforcing members 23. The reinforcing members 23 and 24 are tied together by metal clamps 27.
It will be seen that the ends of offset portions of the reinforcing members 24 are bent downward at 28, beyond the column 18.
In Fig. 5 vI have shown the modified form of the invention, the construction being substantially the same but with the omission of the rows of hollow tile 6.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: l
l. In a concrete floor construction a plurality of beam members having sides and extending from a central point at angles t'o each other, a plurality of panel members each constructed of alternate rows of tile and concrete joists extending from end to end, the 'adjacent panel members being placed at right angles to'each other and separated by the beam members and with the side of a panel member at one side of each i beam member and with an end of a panel member supported by the other side of each beam member.
2. In a concrete floor construction, a plu-- rality of beam members extending from al central point at angles to each other, a plurality of panel lmembers .havingvopposite ends, the adjacent panel members being placed at right angles to each other and sep` arated by`the beam members, and with the side of a panel member at one side of each beam member and with an end of a panel member supported by the other-,side of each beam member. y
3. In a concrete floor construction four beam members extending from a central point at angles to each other, four panel members separated-by the beam members, each panel member being constructed of rows of tile and concrete joists extending from end to end, adjacent panel members being placed at right angles to each other and with the side of a panel member at one side of each beam member, and with an end of a panel member supported by. another side of each beam member.
4. In a concrete loor construction, four beam members extending from a central point at angles to each other, four panel members disposed between the beam members, each beam member supporting yone end of one of the panel members, and tie members disposed obliquely relatively to the beams, and having terminals bent in substantially parallel planes and embedded in diagonally opposite panels. A
1 ,mater point at angles to each other, a support forthe beam members at the central point, four panel members disposed between the beam members, and each constructed of alternate rows of tile and concrete joists, extending 'from end to end of the panels, each beam supporting one end of one of the panel members, reinforcing members in pairs disposed in the beams, and tied together, one reinforcing member extending in substantially a straight path, and the other reinforcing memberbeingoil'set at the point where ,the beam is supported.
7. In a concrete floor construction, four beam members extending .from a central point at an angle to the adjacent beam mem` bers, four panel members having opposite ends, the adjacent panel members being placed at right angles to each other and separated by the beam members, and with the side of a` panel member at one side of each beam member, and with an end of a panel member supported by the otherside of each 'beam member.
8. In a concrete door construction, a plurality of beam members extending. from a central point at angles to each other, a plurality of panel members each constructed of alternate rows of tile and concrete joists, extending from end to end, the panels being disposed betweenthe beam members, with the side of a panel on one side of each beam member and with the end of a panel secured to the other side of each beam member, and tie members disposed obliquely relatively to the beams, and having terminals connecting diagonally opposite panels.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses` WILLIAM PINCKNEY FRANCIS.
