STEAM-GENERATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented l une S, 1915.
Application led May 1, 1918. Serial No. 764,740.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ELMER HARRISON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing' at Detroit, in the county of Vayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Generators, of which the following is a. specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
rThis invention relates to an improved generator especially adapted for house heating and similar purposes where a low pressure of steam is required and where it is desirable to have an automatic regulation thereof.
The object of the invention is to provide a. simple and inexpensive construction especiall;Y adapted for the purpose and for use in conjunction with a gas burner as the source of heat.
further object is to provide a simple and eiicient regulation for automaticallj,Y regulating the supply of fuel in proportion tc the steam pressure and to provide certain other new and useiul features in the conn struction and arrangement of parts.
To these ends the invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth and more imrticularif,T pointed out in the appended ference being had to the accompanying ui wing in which the figure rep- "esente a central xertical section through a device embodying the invention.
tank or boiler 1 of vertical tubular iena is provided to contain a quantity of water in its lower end, the height of the wa- -,.r being regulated by an inlet valve 2 at .l of a. -'eed pipe 3, said voire having l extending into the s inne end-oy the s"A to the long il' sothe es-or falls in the tank the i d v the iioat l the steam user.j as L ing within which is secured a tubular stem 13 on the head of the bellowsv 14. The opposite or inner head 15 of the bellows is provided with a rod 16 extending upward through the bellows and through the tubular stem 13, the bellows being steam tight and adapted to be compressed by internal steam pressure within the tank, the leaves or folds 17 of the bellows being formed of spring metal in the usual manner so that when the steam pressure falls the bellows will automaticallyT expand. Upon the outer end of the rod 16 is a rack 1S which is engaged by a sector 19 having an arm 20 to the opposite end of which a link Z1 is pivotally attached to connect it to a bell crank lever 22 pivctall;T supported upon the upper end of the tank. A connecting rod 23 is pivotally attached at the end to a 'bell crank 22 and extends downward and has suitable connection at its lower end with the arm 2l of a valve Q5 located within a gas supplyr pipe 26. The rod 23 is provided with a turn buckle 27 so that it may be adjusted as to length and vary the position of the arm Q-i to control the opening and closing of the valve by the operation of the bellows and consequentmoveinent of the rod Q3.
A heater 2S comprises a suitable tubular body having headers 29 and 3G for the re tubes 31 which are. secured within the headers and open therethrough. rlhe upper endof the heater bodv is closed b v a breeching 3Q from which leads a smoke pipe 33. rEhe lower end or" the bodi7 of the heater is secured to a suitable base Se which is surported upon a bracket 35 attached to the side or the stand 8 and, within the base 3lis supported a suitable'burner 3G of any desired construction having a mixing tube Si entending outward through 'the side of base and provided with a i valve at its outer end into which the end ot' the QG discharges.
me goat 2' within the tanln jnarge'pipe is connected to the heater above the level of the water therein
