Description
E. SIMPSON.
SWITCH KEY ATTACHMENT.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 26, 1914.

EDMUND SIMPSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SWITCH-KEY ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 8, 1915.
Application filed June 26, 1914. Serial No. 847,509.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDMUND SIMPSON, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at the Bronx, New York, in the county of New York and State of New York have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Switch-Key Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
An object of this invention is to provide a device which may be quickly and easily attached to the switch key of an ordinary lamp socket whereby the key may be operated by pulling a chain carried by the device and extended within easy reach of the user.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an attachment of this character formed entirely from sheet metal and in two parts which may be inexpensively manufactured.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of an ordinary lamp socket and lamp showing my improved operating device attached to the switch key. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the operating device detached from the key, and, Fig. 3 represents a top plan view of the attachment applied to the-switch key.
Referring to the drawings, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5'indicates the body of the attachment formed from sheet metal of adequate thickness and provided with longitudinally extending arms 6 extended in parallel spaced relation from one end thereof. The body 5 is bent into substantially U-formation, as
Copies of this patent may be obtained for clearly illustrated in Fig. 2. A strap 7 also formed of sheet metal is secured to the outer face of the web portion of the U-shaped body 5 by rivets 8 or equivalent securing means, and is provided adjacent its opposite ends with laterally projecting arms 5 having the intermediate portions 10 twisted and apertures 11 in one end thereof. Operating cords or chains 12 are secured at their upper ends in the apertures 11 of the arms 5, and are preferably provided at their ends with knobs 13.
The device is attached to the operating switch key 14 of a lamp bracket 15 in the manner illustrated in Fig. 3, and the longitudinally extending arms 6 are bent around the inner edge of the key 14 on opposite sides of the shank 16 thereby securely attaching the operating device to the key.
What I claim is An attachment for a switch key including a U-shaped body having a central or web portion and corresponding cheeks of different lengths, the long cheek being slotted inwardly to define a pair of arms or bifurcations adapted to receive therebetween the shank of a switch key and to be bent to engage the other or short cheek to secure the U-shaped body in position on the key, a strap secured through the web portion of said body having oppositely directed arms formed integral therewith, and operating cords secured to the outer extremities of said arms.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
