ASH-SIFTER.
Application filed. May 17, 1911.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CARL KAISER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the borough of Manhattan, in the city and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ash-Sifters, of which the following is a specification.
represents the ash Sifter in top plan, the
receiving door at the top of the chute being partially broken away to more clearly disclose the parts beneath the same. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section through the Sifter, the position of an ash barrel, forming a support for the Sifter, being shown in dotted lines, and Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the sitter. v
The cylinder base 1 of the Sifter is provided with a circumferential depending flange 2 adapted to surround and embrace the top of the ash barrel 3. The chute which uprises from the base 1 in a diagonal direction, is divided longitudinally by a screen 4: into a cinder chamber 5 and an ash chamber 6. The cinder chamber 5 is provided with a door 7 at the top of the chute for receiving the cinders and ashes. The base 1 is provided with a hole 8 therethrough at the bottom of the chamber 6, for permitting the ashes to drop readily into the ash barrel or can 3. The discharge end of the cinder chamber 5 projects beyond and downwardly to the lower edge of the cylindrical base and is preferably contracted as shown (topics of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1, 1915.
Serial No. 627,789.
at 9, for concentrating the ashes and directing them into a suitable receptacle, not shown herein. A suitable handle 10 is provided on the chute for convenience in handling the same.
For the purpose of securing the bottom of the Screen 4: at a point intermediate its sides to the base 1, I provide a Z-Shaped brace 11 which is adapted to engage one side of the opening 8 in the base in one bight and the lower end of the screen in the other bight What I claim is:
An ash Sifter comprising a cylindrical base having a circumferential depending flange adapted to surround the top of an ash barrel or can, a chute uprising from the base, a screen dividing the chute into ash and cinder chambers, the discharge end of the cinder chamber projecting beyond and downwardly to the lower edge of the cylindrical base, the inner Wall of the discharge end being formed by the said circumferential depending flange, the base having a free opening centrally located therethrough for the passage of the ashes from the ash chamber directly into the barrel, and a Z shaped brace adapted to engage the base in one bight and the lower end of said screen in the other bight at a point intermediate the sides of the screen.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two witnesses, this sixteenth day of May, 1911.
