c. Theninvention is illustrated inthe accom- VVpanying kdrawings as employed in connection with a device of this character which is disclosed in. Letters Patent No. 857,985,
y granted June 25, 1907,y to G. B. Fessenden.
` l,For the purpose of insuringA detection of anyattempt tomake the watchmans record in anyA manner other than the prescribed method, several devices` have heretofore been produced, which, when the lid or cover ofthe casing of the device is opened or closed, will cause the cutting of a slit in a marginal portion` of the dial. of doing thisV is so, well understood that further explanation thereof is` unnecessary.
The object of my present invention is to providea kcombined tell-tale and lock, the
device being solconstructed that whenever Vthe casing is unlockedpreparatory to opening, the tell-tale will be .released so that the ensuing lift of the cover will leave a mark, such as a marginal slitin the paper dial employed.
With these and further objects in view,
my invention consists in the` improvements which I shall now proceed to describe and claim.` p l Of the accompanying drawings: Figurek 1 is a plan view of a watch-mans clock or timep detector having my` improvements, a portion p of the vcover beingl broken away. Fig. 2 is `an elevation -of a portion ofthe casing,`
showing my improvements by dottedlines.
-Fig. 3 represents a section Online 3-3 of Fig. `2.` Fig. 4 isan elevation of the two ymembers of my combined tell-tale? and lock.
' Similar reference characters indicate simi# larparts in all of the views.
The case, which, of course, contains the usual kind vof clock orftime movementem ployed in devices of this character, has a Specification of Letters Patent. b

The usual top plate of the watch or clock movement lcasing is indicated at 15, 16 being a guide or stripper, betweenwhich and the plate 15 vthe dial 14 is rotated bythe clock movement.
Above the'slot in the casinglO for the entrance of the key which is to unlock or lock the casing, the plate 15 is formed with a marginal slot 18.;` This slot is bridged by" a holder or stripper 19, which is here shown as a `length of wire bent as indicated in the drawings and secured in place by screws 2O;
A tongue 21, having a base 22 which is se- The stripper 16 prefer- Y ably has a tip l17 formed as a pointer.
cured to the inside of the cover or lid, has i its lower end extending laterally to provide a shoulder 23 which acts as a keeper for the wardly through the4 dial. When the marker `moves downwardly, the dial is first slightly Y flexed until arrested by the plate 15, the
sides of the slot 18 holding the lpaperwhile the marker passesy through. The knife is thus adapted to cut in two directions, a
record being made of each opening and closing of the door;
The lkey-operated locking mechanism inl cludes a bolt 25 formed as a portion of a slide 26, having a notch or recess 27 to be engaged bythe usual portion of a key employed for locking and unlocking the casing. The slide is formed with two slots 28 mounted on pins 29. Fig.` 2 illustrates by full and dotted lines the ,two positions to which the` slide and the locking bolt 25 may be moved by a suitable key inserted through the keyhole represented in Fig. 2.y When the slide is moved vto the dotted line position, the
