CURTAIN-POLE.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, ADALBERT SCHMALZ and ALBAN SOHMALZ, citizens of the Republic of Brazil, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification.

The essential object'of this invention is to provide a new type of curtain pole in which the curtain may be applied very quickly to the pole, held permanently in any desired position, and then when desired readily removed from place.

In the drawings, Figure l is an elevation of the invention showing a curtain hanging in position; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the clamping member which holds the curtain upon the pole; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the clamping member; and Fig. 4 is a section of the pole, the curtain, and the clamp, taken at about the middle of either Figs.

The curtain pole 1 is made of wood or any other suitable material and is supported by hooks 2 which are secured to the wall or elsewhere, the upwardly-projecting arms of the hooks being received within perforations 4 in the rod 1. The pole 1 may, however, be supported in any mannerv or by any device which provides a means for holding the pole against rotation.

Suitably secured in the pole 1 are sharppointed pins 5. These pins 5 project upwardly from the pole and preferably perpendicularly thereto and extend outwardly from the periphery of the pole a short dis tance in excess of the thickness of the curtain 6. When the curtain 6 is hung upon the pole, one edge of the curtain loops, over the pole and hangs downwardly therefrom,

as shown in Figs. 1 and 4:, and the sharp pins 5 project through the fabric of the curtain and hold the same upon the pole. When it is desired to hang a curtain in place, the edge is simply looped over the pole and in this manner the person using this invention can very readily adjust the height of the curtain from the floor, adjust the fullness of the gathering and make such other adjustment in order to secure the desired effect as may be desired. It is not necessary when this invention is employed to sew the overhanging fiap or otherwise secure the same'to the main body of the curtain, for the pins 5 will provide all the support that is necessary and will keep the curtain suspended and in place.

A clamping device is employed positively to fasten and hold the curtain on the pins. The detail construction of this clamping device is shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and it consists of two oppositely located U-shaped ends or terminal members which are bent medially to form angular sides, and a pair of straight parallel side arms 9 which extend between the U-shaped ends, and spring over and engage against opposite sides of a curtain pole.

The parallel. arms are bent in a peculiar manner relatively to each other at or near their middle so as to cross each other and provide central stirrups 10 which straddle the curtain pole. As shown in Fig. 2 the central bent portions cross each other at almost a right angle and they are curved as shown in Fig. 3 to fit perfectly upon the rounded surface of the curtain pole. 'This construction, it will be noted, is extremely simple and strong, the only bends being located at the ends and middle, the portions which press against the fabric ofthe curtain being straight.

The advantages are that no projecting, bent, or curved parts are presented to catch in and rip the curtain, the curtain is held firmly in place upon the pole between the straight parallel side arms, and the clamping device can be easily and quickly removed form or fitted on the pole without any possibility of tearing the fabric of the curtain.
