Be it known that I, BOHUMIL SCHVERMA, a citizen of the United States, residing at 'Two Rivers, in the county of Manitowoc and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Egg- Carriers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in shipping receptacles and more particularly to what will be hereinafter known as a sectional egg carrier, the main object of the present invention being the provision of a device of this character wherein eggs can be conveniently shipped by express, parcel post or freight, without becoming broken during transportation.

Another object of the present invention is the provision of an'egg carrier which is formed of anumber of sections, each section being provided with means whereby a number of the sections may be readily secured together during transportation in such a, manner that any shock or jar conveyed to the sections willnot be communicated to the eggs, within the carrier and are so arranged that they may be readily connected together 'or disconnected. r

When it is desired to arrange the sections in alinement, the side bars 14: which are provided at one of their ends with a central lug 15 and at their other ends with a central opening 16, are to be arranged in alinement so that the lugs 15 will fit within the openings 16. The sections are then securely held against longitudinal movement by means of a latch plate 17which is hingedly connected to one end of one of the bars 1%, the latch plate 17 being provided at its other end with an elongated opening 18 which is adapted to receive the upwardly projecting stud 19 fixed in the bar on which the latch plate 17 is mounted. It will be understood, from reference to Fig. 1 of the drawings, that the sections are assembled by engaging the stud 19 on the bar 14 carried by one section through the central opening in one of the bars 14- carried by an adjacent section. The plate 17 on the bar which is provided with a stud 19, is then swung over and clownwardly so that the stud will be engaged In this manner, any desired number of the sections may be connected together.

From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be readily apparent that I have provided a simple and durable egg carrier, and means whereby a plurality of sections can be quickly and readily connected together and so arranged that any shock or jar conveyed to the same will not be imparted to the contents thereof. It will also be seen that each section includes a number of frames hingedly connected together and provided with the receiving pockets, said frames being securely connected together when in an effective position, in order to retain the eggs therein against any movement. It will also be apparent from the foregoing that 1 have provided a simple and durable egg carrier which is extremely simple in construction and can be manufac- Copies of this patent may be obtained for tured and placed upon the market at a comparatively low cost.

\Vhile I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice, without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described this invention, what I claim is:

1. The combination of a plurality of article carriers each provided with parallel side bars, each bar having a socket in one end and a longitudinally projecting lug on its other end, shock absorbing springs arranged in the sockets, the lugs on the bars of one carrier being adapted to be fitted into the sockets on the bars of an adjacent carrier, a vertically disposed lug on one of the side bars of each carrier, the other side bar of each carrier being provided with an opening to receive the lug of the bar on an adjacent carrier, and latching devices on the latter bars to engage the lugs thereon.

The combination of a plurality of carriers each including a plurality of hingedly connected frames, said frames being provided with means for detachably connecting the same together at their free ends, side bars secured to one frame of each carrier each provided upon one end with a longitudinally projecting lug and in its other end with a socket, the lugs of the bars of one carrier being adapted for engagement in the sockets of the bar of an adjacent carrier, the side bars of the adjacent carriers being provided with additional means to hold the carriers against relative movement in one direction, and latch devices for connecting the several carriers to each other.
