TYING DEVICE.

Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed March 4, 1914. Serial No. 822,425.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HUGH ALISON REYN- OLDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Anniston, in the county of Calhoun 7 and State of Alabama, have invented anew and useful Tying Device, of which the fol lowing is a specification.

The present invention appertains to tying devices for bundles or packages, and aims to provide a novel and improved appliance of that character.

It is the object of the present invention to provide a unique tying device, which may be conveniently and effectively employed for tying, or binding a bundle or package of letters or other mail matter, in order that the bundle may be handled or transmitted, without danger of the bundle becoming loosened.

Another object of the present invent on is to provide a simple and inexpensive device of the nature indicated, which may be applied to a bundle or package, to tie or bind the same without knotting the tying or binding element. p

A further object of the present invention is to provide a device of the character indicated, which may be conveniently employed with various sizes of bundles or packages, to eliminate the use of the ordinary twine for tying together bundles of mail matter, and the present device being devoid of any gripping or looking. members, or theylike, which are objectionable. I

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the, combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The invention has been illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the tying device, a portion of the cord or flexible binding element being broken away. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the tying device as applied to a bundle or package.

The present device embodies only two parts, one of which is a rigid frame, and the other of which is a cord orflexiblebinding element attached'permanently to the frame.

The frame is constructed from wire stock,

although it may be otherwise manufactured, and embodies a pair of parallel side bars 1, forming the body or base of the frame, and having the angularly extended portions 2 at one end, forming the end piece or head of the body or frame. The other ends of, the side bars 1 are connected by an inwardly curved cross piece or yoke 3, while the angular or end members 2 are connected by a re entrant V-shaped member or yoke f having its crotch formed with aneye or loop 5.

In employing the present devices for binding or tying a package or bundle, say, for example, a. bundle of letters, as illustrated in Fig. 2, the bundle of letters are placed upon the frame, with one end .or side of the" bundle resting against-the end members 2 and yoke 4 as illustrated in full and dotted lines, respectively, in Fig. 2.. One face of the bundle rests against the side bars 1 and the yoke 8, it being noted that the frame is engaged over one corner of the bundle to rest against one end or side and one face thereof. The frame may be readily held in the hand, while the bundle is applied there,-

Having thus described the invention, what as claimed as new 1s:.
