' s orroing a wherein is iliostiateo a of roy invention, the e portion of a shirt and This s).
the bacia portion a horizontally' hole 8.)
mi. .1. e numeral 9 designates the ordinary double fold turned down collar. provided with horizontal buttonhole 9, and surrounds the collar band in the usual manner. My elio or holder comprises a horizontally ou body portion or elongated plate 'r is curved longitudinally in a hori- .lane, to Conform generally to Y of the shi band and collar, tae same will lie perfectly nat "fl''y band from th Lut . .Vle with relation tothe horizontal body ortion, asl shown. Formed upon the free lower end of the relatively short shank is a horizontal or elongated head l2, ming the horizontal arm of the L-shaped ion which extends laterally beyond the ll in one direction only in the plane ik il and in a plane substantially parallel to one end portion oi" the horizontal body portion or elongated plate l0. This considered to be one of the most important 'features of the invention, as by reason of le quite long or in any desired length l be inserted into and removed from tton-hole 9 of the `Collar 9. llt is na when the button-hole 9 is elio must be provided With a corly lone' horizontal head l2. .If la; :n A
,n l; extended laterally beyond the shan in both directions, it 1s obvious t e head could only be constructed relat .'ely short, for if the same Were too long; it could not be passed through the buttonhole of the collar. l have Jround that satis- 'lfaetory results are obtainable by having the l l .rental head l? substantially co-extensive in le 1th wir-h the corresponding arm of trie body portion l0, or a little longer. The
aoiismtal head l2 is euri/ed longitudinally e horizontal 1Glane,*toveoo'forro genen ly to the curvature of the collar and when olii, i. i
, in use7 soc'n head is disposed in a vertical *plane outwardly' of the plane 0oeupied by the horizontal body portion 19. fill parts of the clip are preferably formed integral, the saine being preferably stamped from a section of suitably thin and stili sheet metal or the like. Y
The clip when made of sheet metal is pref erably plated with .silver or gold, or the same may be made of any desired precious metal, Celluloid or other suitable material.
ln the use of the clip, the horizontal head 19 is first passed through the button-hole 8, to be disposed outwardly of the shirt band f3. as clearly shown in Fig'. The Collar is then manipulated so that the horizontal head is passed through the button-hole 9a, as shown in Fig, 2. The Collar 9 will oompletely conceal the Clip. lt is obvious that the width of the horizontal head 12 must be of proper size to allow the head to be passed through the smallest buttonhole in oonnec tion with which the clip is to be used. As the head extends laterally in one direction mstruetioa the horizontal head l2 may l I only with relation to the depending shank 1l, the same may be constructed sutliciently long, as shown in Fig. 1, whereby the same may be used in connection with almost any collar which is now upon the market. 4The function in having the shank 11 relatively short, is to conceal the .clip behind the collar. The function in having the shank 11 vertically inclined or angularly arranged with relation to the body portion 10, is to have the head 'l2 Vdisposed in a Vertical plane outwardly of the body portion, when the clip is in use, whereby 'Such head will not clamp against the outer surface of the collar bandand render it difficult to pass the head through the button-hole of a collar.
1t is to be understood that the form .of my invention herewith shown and described is to'be taken as a preferred example of the .same` and that certain changes in the shape,
size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the sub- )oined claim.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim A L substantially flat integral sheet metal collar button, comprising an upper bodyplate curved slightly longitudinally to con-v iorm to the curvature of a collar when arranged substantially horizontally; a depending shank integral with the lower edge of the body plate at a point substantially equidistantly spaced from the opposite ends thereof and vertically inclined outwardly and downwardly with respect to the body plate; and a relatively long head integral with the lower outer end of the depending shank, said head being spaced vertically a substantial distance from the body plate and with.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
