FREDERICK W. DAVIS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO FRIGID FLUID COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
l RECORD-BOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Dty 11, 1915.
Application filed December 29, 1913. Serial No. 809,161.
rangement of a book or pad by 'means of which the coupons are mounted in a certain way so that these coupons may be detachable, which coupons are provided with records corresponding preferably to a record provided upon a card with which the coupons are associated upon such portion of the card in closeproXimity to the coupon.
ThereV are of course many ways in which my invention may be of use. VI have however chosen for illustrating my invention herein one form of Vuse in which myy Vimproved `book would be peculiarly applicable, and in such form of carrying out my invention it is arranged to provide a record and means together with coupons for keeping track of pre-arranged details for funerals.
I will explain this particular form of carrying out my invention morein detail by referring to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a book constructed in accordance with my invention, the book being open; Fig. 2 is a front view of the book in a closed condition; Fig. 3 is a rear view of the closed book, and Fig. 4 shows a fragmentary view of a coupon strip.
Referring more particularly to Fig. l, my improved book consists of the front cover 1 and the leaf 2. These two leaves respectively 1 and 2 are to be made of rather substantial paper and fold along the line 3 so that the front view of the book when closed would be as `shown more clearly in Fig. 2, and the rear view would be as shown in Fig. 3. The leaf 2 is ruled on both sides so that it may be divided into five spaces 4, 4, between the heavy lines 5 on the rear face and also live spaces 4 between the double lines 5 on the front face as shown in Fig. l. Each space 4 then is provided with a number so 'that the front face of Fig. l may be numbered from one to five, and the rear face from six to ten by the legends 6 as shown more clearly in Fig. 3. Each space 4 is provided with six lines or thereabouts, and these lines are each preferably, when the invention is used as shown herein, to be provided with the name of the prospective occupant of a carriage or automobile in the funeral procession, which carriages or automobiles 'have been previously given a numerical designation which corresponds to the legends 6. These legends are ordinarily obscured by coupons 7. rIhese coupons 7 are preferably arranged in stripsS which are perforated so that the coupons 7 are readily detachable. There are preferably as many coupon strips as there are lines withinv the space 4. These coupon strips are fastened by means of binders 9, or in any other suitably way tothe leafV 2. Now all of the coupons, for instance, opposite the upper space .4 in Fig. l are numbered with the number of that particular space which under the present circumstances would be number l so that the first coupon is numbored Auto No. l, kand all the coupons below this coupon iAuto No. l are provided with the same legend Auto No. 1 Similarly all of the coupons above the second space would have the designation cAuto No. 2 and so on. There being asmany coupons as there are vlines within the space 4, thatis occupants ofthe particular automobile, each prospective occupant of Auto No. 1' for instance is given a coupon having the legend thereon Auto No. l The book itself is 'retained by the undertaker or whoever has charge of filling the carriages or autos and the names appearing within the space 4, each conveyance can be properly filled by the undertaker, and each of the prospective occupants of the machine is aware of the number of the machine in which he is to ride.
In addition of course the coupons may have the name of the undertaker for advertising purposes. It will be seen that there are two rows of coupon strips 8, one on the front side of the leaf 2 and one on the back side thereof. Now the lowest coupon strip 10 has coupons 11 which are intended for the chauffeurs. They also have the particular number corresponding to the particular conveyance, but are providedwith the legends Chauffeurs coupon,l and also the legend Put in lamp. It will be seen that this last strip having the coupons il is provided with :a larger numeral corresponding to the vparticular conveyance in order that this numeral may be visible when placed in .the lamp of the conveyance to indicate the number of the conveyance. These coupons `yll of course are as 'already apparent to be detached and given to the chauffeur of the particular conveyance to which they correspond, to be particular ear. The cover leaf l may be proivided on its exterior with such indications :as will appear from Fig. 1, namely the name loflthe deceased, place of the funeral, date randhour of the funeral, notes, and the name mfthe funeral director. The inner side of 'athis leaf l may then be provided with spaces be used for the names of the pall bearers, honorary pall bearers, the number of fiower marriages, and calls for the clergyman and lmusic.
From this it will be readily apparent that II have constructed a book which is so arranged that means are provided to properly {cordinate certain transactions as they have been prearranged.
It will of course be readily apparent that .'my invention is susceptible of many and various uses, and that the particular embodiment disclosed herein is for illustrative purposes.
Having however' thus described one form which my invention may take, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A device of the `character described consisting of a leaf, and a plurality of perforated coupon strips one above the other fastened upon and extending along one side of said leaf, blank spaces'provided upon said leaf corresponding 'to the various l'sets of superposed coupons, each'row ofsuperposed placed within the lamp of the coupons and the corresponding blaiikfspace 45 having the same serial number. y I,
2. A carriage list pdinprisingaleaffaplu'- rality of super-,posed strips fastened on top of said leaf 2along one l"side thereo'ifya row Iof longitudinal perforation's in said strips, La 5l) plurality fof parallel transversely of sai-d strip into a plurality fof coupons, fdi'vr ing lines on said leaf transversely thereof to subdivide the same coupons, the subdivided spa'ces lon said leaf and the coupons above said space having the same serial Inumber corresponding to the number of a conveyance, th'ept'op layers lof rows fof perforationL` coupons being for the intended occupa-nts 'of 60 the conveyance 'and the lower layer having indicia thereon to indicate their usey by the driver of the conveyance.
'3. A Acarriage list comprising a leaf, a plurality of :superposed strips fastened on top 65 same serial number corresponding to the 75,
number of a conveyance, the top strips of coupons being for the intended occupants of the conveyance and the lower strip having indicia thereon to indicate theiruse by the driver of the conveyance, and a cover leaf 80 secured to said leaf having information indicia thereon.
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 9th day of October, A. D. 1918.
