Specification of Letters Patent.

and the principal object is to provide a standard which is adapted to raise a hose sprinkler above the surrounding vegetation so that the water thrown by the sprinkler will be evenly distributed over the top of the vegetation and not caught and deflected by the lower portions of said vegetation.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hose standard of the above character which is adapted to take any of several common forms of sprinkler heads.
in the drawings which are for illustrative purposes only: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a standard upon which is placed an Allen sprinkler. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the head of a hose standard equipped with an Allen sprinkler. Fig. 3 is a similar view of a hose standard equipped with a Thompson sprinkler. Fig. 4 is a plan View of the sprinkler head equipped with a Wilgus sprinkler. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the head showing the method of attachment of the various sprinklers.
In the drawings, 10 is a line of hose connected to a suitable source, not shown, and equipped at 11 with an Allen sprinkler. This sprinkler is shown in Fig. 2 and consists of two hollow bodies 12 and 13 having orifices 1 1 and 15 in the top thereof and having cars 16 and 17 cast on the bottom thereof and projecting slightly from the sides of the members 12 and 13. The sprinkler head 18 is secured to a post 19 which has a sharp metallic point 20 which may be driven into the ground, the post 19 being of suflicient length to raise the head 18 above the vegetation which it is desired to sprinkle. The head 18 is preferably formed of a block of wood and has a pair of cavities 21 cut in the forward edge thereof and a pair of hooks 22 extending outwardly over said cavities. A small depression 23 is formed in the rear thereof, the parts 21, 22, and 23 being adapted to receive and retain the Allen sprinkler illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. This is accomplished by slipping the ears l6 and 17 under the hooks 22 and allowing the projections on the bottom of the sprinkler to rest in the cavities 21 and 23. With the sprinkler secured in the position shown in Fig. 1 the weight of the hose cooperates with the parts 21, 22 and 23 to hold the sprinkler, securing it in the position shown in Fig. 1.
The Allen sprinkler illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 is in very general use and the sprinkler head illustrated is particularly adapted for use with this sprinkler.
The Thompson sprinkler illustrated in Fig. 3 consists of a hollow body 2 1 having a hose connection 25 into which the hose 10 is secured. The sprinkler has a perfectly fiat bottom and a small eye 26 formed in the forward end thereof. A hook 27 secured in a staple 28 is provided on the head 18 and this hook 27 is passed through the eye 26, the weight of the hose cooperating with the hook 27 to hold the Thompson sprinkler in place as shown in Fig. 3.
The Vl ilgus sprinkler illustrated in Fig. 4: consists of the sprinkler body 29 having a hose connection 30 to which the hose 10 may be secured. This sprinkler has a long pin 31 extending downwardly from the underside thereof and a hole 32 is provided in the sprinkler head 18 in which the pin 31 is placed cooperating with the hose 10 to hold the 1 V ilgus sprinkler on the head 18. It will thus be seen that any one of these three common forms of sprinklers may be securely attached to the head 18 in the proper position to get the best results on high foliage.
The method of operation will be plain from the above description.
I claim as my invention:
1. A hose standard comprising a post, a head secured to said post, said head having two depressions in the top near the forward edge and one depression in the top near the rear edge into which protuberances on a sprinkler will fit, and means for clamping the sprinkler in position on top of said head.
2. A hose standard comprising a post, a head secured to said post, said head having two depressions in the top near the forward edge and one depression in the top near the rear edge into which the protuberances on a sprinkler will fit, and hooks adjacent to said forward depression so placed as to cooperate with said depressions to secure a sprinkler on the top of said head.
3. A hose standard comprising a post, a
head secured to said post, a depression in set my hand at Los Angeles, California, this said head adapted to receive a projection on 3rd day of July, 1914. a sprinkler, and a hook secured to said head WILLIAM A. M vand adapted to hook over a portion of said In presence of 5 sprinkler and secure it on said head. FRED A. MANSFIELD,
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto FRANK L. A. GRAHAM.
GLAREN.
