PEING TENSIQN DEVICE.
fipeeiflcation of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 27, 1%15.
Application filed January 2?, 1912. tBex-ial No. 878,999.
T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BERNARD L. BRANDT, a
' citizen of the United States of America, re-
"and useful eatures in its construction which will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein' v Figure 1 isa front elevation of a portion of a pair of suspenders, artly broken away and partly in section, and Fig. 2 is a similar view showing a spring compressed.
In the drawing, the reference numeral 1 denotes a portion of the shoulder strap. to an end of which is connected a link- 10 and connected to said link is a looped strap 11 providing a pocket. Secured in the lower end of the )ocket is a bearing) strip 3 held in position y eyelets 4, the caring strip being preferably formed of leather or other suitable flexible material. A tension cord 5 which is preferably formed of closely woven fabric material, round in cross section, is
run through the eyelet 4, forming a loop within the looped strap or pocket '11.
Sleeved upon the tension cord 5 within the pocket 11 is a coiled spring 12 having the ate of Michigan, have invented cer-,
end convolutions thereof enlarged in diameter, as at 13,'to seat upon the peripheral flanges 20 of thimbles 19 upon the cord. 5. These th-imbles are normally inclined and engage the strip 3 at one side only, when the cord 5 is not under tension, as shown in Fig. 1, butwvhen a pull comes upon the dord and the spring is compressed thereby, as shown in Fig. 2, these thimbles will seat upon the eyelets and thus form extended guldes for the cord so that there will be no possibility of its binding in the eyelet. The mcreasin -of the diameter of the end convolutions o the spring serves the same urpose as said coils will seat upon each ot er and form a tubular guide for the cord.
Having thus fully described my invention what I c aim is The combination with a strap having a loop at its'end forming a pocket, of a bearing strip arranged within the lower end of said pocket, eyelets extendin through the lower end of the pocket an said bearing strip, normally inclined thimbles restin upon the inner ends of said eyelets, a cor extending through said eyelets and said thimbles and forming a tension loop within 4 the pocket, and means encircling the cord of said tension loop and said thimbles for maintaining said loop in an extended position within the pocket of said strap;
In testimony whereof I afix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
