To all w ham it may concern Be it known that 1, PETER J. A. SonNooR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Holstein, in the county of Ida and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in shipping and storing vessels and relates more particularly to bottles of the non-refillable type.
The invention has for its primary object a simple and efficient construction of device of this character, the parts of which will be few in number and capable of being easily manufactured and assembled and so arranged that after they have once been assembled and the bottle filled, the contents thereof may be easily poured therefrom, but difficulty will be experienced in refilling the bottle.
A further object of the invention is a device of this character in which is provided a gravity actuated valve which is initially connected to a rod in such a manner that the valve may be held off of its seat for the purpose of filling the bottle, the connection between the rod and the stem being such that it can be very easily disrupted so that subsequently there will be no means pro vided for the purpose of refilling the bottle. And the invention also aims to generally improve devices of this character so as to render them more useful and commercially desirable.
With the above and other objects in view, as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combination of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a bottle embodying the improvements of my invention; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a. similar view on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in all of the views of the accompanying drawing by like reference characters.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the body portion of a bottle constructed in accordance with my invention, such body portion being of any desired shape, size or form, except as hereinafter noted, and 2 designates the bottle neck, the same being provided at any desired point on its interior with an annular valve seat' 3.
4 designates the vale. It is provided at its upper edge with an outstanding annular flange 5 adapted to rest on the seat 3 to close the outlet passage from the neck when the bottle is in its upright position, the valve being moved by gravity into both open and closed positions and it being, of course, understood that just as soon as the bottle is sufiiciently tilted, the valve 4 will move off of its seat and allow the contents of the bottle to pour out. WVhen the bottle is again moved to an upright position, the valve will close, as is manifest, and any attempts to pour liquid into the battle will be frustrated. The valve 4 is provided with a rod-like stem 6 which is mounted andmoved through a central opening in a plate or partition 7 which is preferably cast integral with the neck above the valve seat 3 and which is provided, in addition to the opening for the passage of the stem 6, with any desired number of additional openings 7 for the passage of the fluid to and out of the mouth of the bottle. Preferably, the top of the bottle is permanently closed as indicated at 8, and is provided with any desired number of laterally disposed orifices 9 through which the contents of the bottle may be poured out.
It is to be particularly noted that the valve stem 6 is provided at one end with a head 10 which, in the present instance is of ball-like formation. and designed to rest upon the upper surface of the partition 7 when the valve 4 is upon the seat 3. Detachably connected to the stem 6 is a valve raising device which, in the present instance, is in the form of a rod 11 provided at one end with spring arms 12 which are designed to engage the head 10, as clearly illustrated in the drawing. The rod 11' passes up through the top 8 of the bottle and is provided at its upper end with a finger loop 13 or the like, whereby the rod may be easily grasped from the exterior of the bottle so as to raise the valve from its seat and permit the bottle to be filled initially with the desired contents. After the bottle has thus been filled, a further pull upon the rod .11 Will disrupt its connection -With=-thestem 6 as the spring arms 12 Will release thehead 10 and manifestly no means are provided-dfor raising the valve ofi'f of its seat, so that While the contents 'ot ithe bottle may the poured out, the valvewill tend to prevent any liquid from being poured therein.

A bottle of the character described provided in its neck with a relatively long 5 tapering valve seat and with a partition between the mouth of the bottle and the valve seat, the mouth of the bottle being provided with a permanent top and with lateral discharge openings, the distance between the upper face of the partition and said top being greater than the distance between the lower face of the partition and the top of the valve when the latter is in its closed position whereby to permit the disengagement of a lifting rod from said head when the valve strikes the face of the partition, the valve being greater in length than the distance between the partition and the adjacent face of the valve seat whereby to prevent the valve from entirely disengaging from its seat when lifted, said valve being provided with a plurality of relatively small openings from the periphery of the valve to its upper face.
