APPLICATION r|LED1uNE9.1914.

LILI ALINE MCGRATH, `0F BROOKHAVEN, MISSISSIPPI.
FLOOR-POLISHER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr.. 2U, 1191.5.
Application filed June 9, 1914. Serial No. 843,986.
lie it know n that I. LILI Ainsi; MCGRATH, a citizen of the lvnited States, and a resident ole lhooklm\en. in the county ol Lincoln and State oil Mississippi. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Floor-Polishers. of which the following is a specitication.
My invention relates to the polishingot floors. and the main object thereof is to provide means for accomplishing this result in a pleasurable manner.
A further object lis to provide such means which utilize the weight of a person using the same.
A further object is to provide such means in the shape of ioot coverings, such as slippers, adapted to be worn by the user.
A turther object is to provide means therewith insuring safety to the wearer against falls on the polished surface; and further objects are to provide such devices which are simple in construction and use, highly eliicient. and comparatively inexpensive.
M v invention is fully described in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts are designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a partial view of a person using my invention; Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the invention, ready for use; Fig. 3 is an enlarged section taken on the line 3-3 ot Fig. Q; and Fig. 4 is an enlarged section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
In the drawings forming apart of this application I have shown a present preferred form of my invention, comprising a pair of slippers f-a., composed of a leather or fabric member n.2 turned to form a heel loopl a, and which member is shaped to tthe Jfoot of a person intending to use the device. and an insert .4 is provided which is carried upwardly to form the upper of the slipper. and I also provide a bottom member n.5 'forming the sole and heel of the slipper and composed of some suitable polishing material. relatively soft, the material of which it is composed and the texture being in accordance. with the particular use for which the device is intended, as the polishing ol' varnished loors'requires a different material than Athe polishing of waxed or oiled floors, but the exact material is not herein claimed.
I prefer to make the slippers sufficiently large to permit the wearer to use the same with his or her usual foot coverings, although this is not necessary, and I will also connect the slippers of each pair with a stout cord or twine b, passed through the eorreslmnding loops as provided for this purpose. and by means of which the slippers may also be suspended when not in use, and this cord is made of a length permitting a full stride ot' the wearer. as in dancing, but not sufticiently long to admit of the wearers ieet spreading apart to permit his or her fall, and this is an important part of the invention.
The operation is obvious:*-The wearer merely places his or her t'eet within the slippers and begins to dance, preferably such dances as require longglides. and it will be seen that the floor polishing operation becomes a pleasure and. also, the entire weight ot' the wearer is utilized instead of merely the weight of the upper part of the body when the floors are polished in a kneeling position, the usual manner.
My invention is very simple, though well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed. and I may make the same of any desired form. and of any desired material, and other changes in and modifications of the construction shown and described may be made. within the scope of the following claim, without departing from the spirit of my invention. or sacrificing its advantages, and, reserving the right to all such changes,
vWhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is
A Hoor polishing device. comprising a pair of foot coverings. each ot' which comprises a strip of suitable material bent intermediate its ends to form superimposed sole members having a loop at the bend, a. In testimony whereof I have signed my slipper upper having the lower edges therename to this specification in the presence of of tucked between said sole members, a. botthe subscribing witnesses.
tom member also. held between said sole Mns. LILI ALINE MCGRATH. members, said upper and sole members be- Witnesses: ing secured together forwardlyof said loop, W. S. T. FARRELL,
and a cord joining said loops. CLARE BYRNE.
