My present invention relates to a foot medication applicator for use in the treatment of foot ailments such as athletes foot.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide an applicator which may be used to most eifectively apply a medicament to the feet and which is adapted for convenient use in bath rooms, locker rooms, dressing rooms and the like.

Another object of the invention is to provide an applicator for the purposes aforesaid, which is relatively light in weight and compact in form, permitting it to be easily transported and conveniently stored for necessary use.

A further object of the invention is to provide a foot medication applicator having the characteristics above stated, which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and durable in use.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the detailed description which follows.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention yconsists of the novel features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which shows the preferred embodiment of my in- Vention.

In the accompanying drawing which forms an integral part of this disclosure,

Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof on the line 22 of Fig. 1, showing its application to the foot when in use.

Referring now to the drawing, wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the foot medication applicator constructed in accordance with my invention comprises broadly an open top casing I of impervious material, and an applicator pad I I contained within the casing, which consists of a soft resilient and absorbent pad body I2, impregnated with a foot medicament, and a fabric covering I3.

The casing II] is of generally rectangular form and of a size generally suitable for the required purpose. The casing I0 may be fabricated of hard vulcanized rubber, plastic, light metal or other suitable impervious material, and is preferably provided with a cover I4, of like material, which may be hinged to one side of the casing as shown at I5 in Fig. 1, or otherwise attached thereto, or the cover I4 may be wholly detachable from the casing. The upper edge of the casing is preferably formed with a peripheral ledge I6 and the marginal edge of the cover is preferably formed with a peripheral flange I1 which is adapted to rest upon the ledge I6 when th'e cover is placed over the casing in closed position, whereby the casing and cover in their closed relationship provide a watertight and leak proof container. Suitable fastening elements such as the hooks I8 may be provided on the sides of the casing to cooperate with corresponding fastening elements such as the lugs I9 on th'e cover, to securely hold the cover in closed position against accidental displacement. The applicator, when in use is required to rest on a floor surface; consequently the underside of the casing I0 is preferably provided with a flexible base 20 made of soft rubber or felt, which is attached to the underside of the casing by any suitable means and serves to prevent slipping of the casing from its desired position on a floor surface.

The applicator pad II including the pad body I2 and the covering I3 is fitted, snugly within the casing I0 and its upper side is preferably made to be flush with the upper edge of the casing.

The padbody I2 may be fabricated of soft sponge, sponge rubber, or other suitable resilient and absorbent material, and is formed with a recess 2I in the upper side thereof, which is designed to conform substantially to the general sh-ape and contour of a human foot. The recess 2| is adapted for receiving the lower portion of the normal foot therein, and the walls of the recess are shaped to engage the surfaces thereof. Projecting rearwardly from the forward wall of the recess are spaced, substantially parallel ribs 22, which form the toe receiving pockets 23 in the forward portion of the recess. The ribs 22 are designed to enter between the toes of the foot and to contact the sides thereof. It is to be noted that the recess 2| is formed with two large toe receiving pockets, one to each side of the recess, and three intermediate toe receiving pockets. The applicator is thus adapted to be used for applying medication to either the right or the left foot in the manner hereinafter described.

The outer covering I3 for the pad body, which is intended to provide a relatively smooth' surface for contact with the foot and to avoid contact of the foot with the pad body material, may be made of any suitable porous fabric, and is fashioned to completely enclose the pad body I2 and to line the Wall and the floor of the recess 2|. Accordingly the covering I3 is constructed from several sections or fabric which are stitched together to provide a snugly tting jacket for the pad body. The fabric covering I3 includes preferably a section 24 adapted to embrace the bottom and sides of th'e pad body, a section 25 adapted to lie over the upper side of the pad body, a section 26 designed to line the wall of the recess 2I and a section 2I which is designed to cover the floor of the recess. These several sections are stitched together forming a seam 28 extending along the upper peripheral edge of the pad body, a seam 29 extending -around the upper edge of the recess 2 I, and a seam 30 lying adjacent to the periphery of the floor of the recess.

The applicator pad I I is impregnated preferably with a liquid medicament which may be introduced therein by dipping the pad into the medicament prior to the insertion of the pad into the casing It, or by simply pouring the medicament over the upper surface of the pad'and over the oor of the recess formed therein, while the pad is positioned within the casing. The pad body I2, being composed ofabsorbentmaterial is-'a'dapted to readily absorb and retain a substantial quantity of the medicament. Any one ofanumber of liquid foot medicaments presently marketed may be used for the desiredfpurposa It is-also feasible, if desired, to impregnate the pad body I2 with a suitable powdered' footmedicament, which may be done prior to insertion, of the pad bodyvvithin its outer covering I3.

The applicator may be conveniently-kept ina bath room, locker room, or dressing room and when requiredfor use the applicatormay-be uncovered and placed with its bottom resting on a noor suriacenear the user, who maybe-either seated or in a standing position. The user may theniinsert his foot within the recess 2i of the applicator padfwith the toes of the foot-projecting into the toe receiving pockets in the forward portion of the recess. By pressing the foot downwardly on the pad, and-by lateral movement' of the lfoot, the pad body, which is resilient and porous, Will yield to the pressure, and the medicament containedtherein will l beil expressed -therefrom and will beapplied to the vital parts of the foot, such as the solo ofthe Yiootandthe areas around and betweenthe toes, which are particularly vulnerable to such ailments as athletes foot.

It will thus be apparent that the applicator may be employed advantageously to effectively' appiy medication to the foot with a minimum loss ofmedicament.

The form Vand shape of therecess'ZI enables the` applicator to'beused for alternately applying .medication to the right and the left foot, and

when the medication process is completed the applicator may be stored away in a convenient place for use at a subsequent occasion.

The applicator may be useful effectively for numerous applications of the medicament to the feet without necessary attention and recharging. In the event that the medicament becomes exhausted from long and continuous use of the applicator, an additional supply of medicament may be introduced therein in the manner above described.

While I have shown and described what I consider to be a most practical embodiment of my invention, I desire it to be understood that my invention is not limited to the specific embodiment thereof herein described and illustrated,

butthat changes in the details of construction .may be made, Without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention as dened in the appended claims.

kHaving thus described and illustrated-my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A portable applicator for use in the treatment of foot ailments comprising an open top casing and an absorbent and resilient medicament impregnated applying pad tted into the casing, said pad having a recess therein adapted to accommodate the foot of the user, the Walls of the recess being shaped to engage the suriaces'of the foot and to project between the toes thereof, whereby pressure by the foot uponthe pad will express the medicament contained therein and apply the same to the surfaces of the foot engaged by the pad.

2. A portable applicator for use in the 'treatment of foot ailments, comprising an open top. casing, an absorbent and resilient medicament impregnated applying pad fitted into the casing, said pad having a recess therein adaptedto ac.- commodate the foot-of the user, the walls of said recess being shaped to engage the surfaces of the foot and to project between the toes thereof, and a porous fabric Icovering enclosing said pad and fashioned to line the walls and floor of-.said recess.'
