To ZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, THEODORE O. BITTNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Card-Supports, of which the following is a specification.

The general object of the invention is to admit of supporting a show or display card when the same is arranged in an upright or inclined position and bearing on one of its edges, and this without disclosing the support to those observing the front of the card. And to this end the invention consists in a knock-down support or easel formed from a blanlr of suitable material such as card board and arranged so that when in set-up position it will support a display card at a required angle and be held against accidental toppling.

Other objects will appear and be better understood from that embodiment of my invention of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which Figure l is a perspective of the device in set-up position. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation. Fig. 3 is a plan of the blank and showing the device collapsed.

The blank a may be formed of any material found suitable for the purpose, such as heavy card or paste board. By preference the blank is formed with a central bearing portion 5 which extends longitudinally of the blank and foldable wing portions 66 whose outer sides 7? extend obliquely to the opposite sides of the bearing portion 5, whereby to admit of having at the upper end of the bearing portion 5, a tab 8 of minimum length, which may be connected to a hook or the like driven into a wall or other upright support. l Vhen the tab is connected to a hook, the bearing portion 5 will be held. at an angle to the vertical and such angle will be different from that which the said bearin g portion will have when the device is resting on the lower edges 99 of the wings, since, as shown in Fig. 3, the angle of those edges to the sides of the bearing portion 5, is not complementary to that which the sides 77 make with the sides of the hea ring portions. 11 in the bearing portion 5 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The lateral extensions 1212 at the outer corners of the locking tongue, have notches l8-13 made to receive the sides 77 of the wings and detents l t-14 formed in the said sides, as shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive.

lVhen it is desired to set up the device from the position shown in Fig. 3, the tongue 10 is folded rearwardly and upwardly until a suilicient clearance is provided to admit of folding the wings 6-6 rearwardly and at approximately right angles to the bearingportion 5. When the wings are thus folded they will bear on the opposite sides of the tongue and the sides 77 will be presented to the notches 1313. The tongue may now be folded downwardly whereupon the sides 7-7 will pass into the notches 1813. The downward movement of the tongue is continued until the notches thereof are at the middle of the detents l4 lt in which position the tongue will beinterlocked with the wings 66 and held against further downward movement by the lower sides of the detents. When it is desired to unfold or knock down the device the tongue is moved upwardly until the notches 1313 are beyond the sides 7-7 whereupon the wings may be folded into the plane of the bearing portion 5. In this last-named position the device will be perfectly flat, whereby a considerable number of such devices may be packed into a relatively small space.

By reference to Fig. 1 of the drawing it will be seen that the wing portions 6 are provided with straight edges 15 located at the upper portion of the opening 11 and the said straight edges are approximately at right angles to the lower edge 9. The said wing portion 6 are also provided with other straight edges located at the lower portion of the opening 11. The last mentioned straight edges are approximately at a right angle to the plane of the central portion 5 of the support. Consequently when the support is hung up by the tap 8 a card or other fiat object may be placed on edge on the straight edges 15 and the edges 15 will hold the said card so that it may be readily seen while resting upon the support.

What is claimed as new is:
