ROSALIE DELPHIN BALTHAZAR, OF IPAWNEE, LOUISIANA.
SHOE-POLISI-IER.
Application filed July 11, 1914.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Rosanna D. BALT- HAZAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pawnee, in the parish of Allen and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Polishers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in brushes and more particularly to shoe polishing brushes.
The leading feature of my invention consists in providing a simple, inexpensive, and highly efficient device of the character descriped adapted to provide greater convenience in the application of the brush for polishing purposes.
With the above and other objects in view my invention consists in the combination, arrangement, and details of construction disclosed in the drawing and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing, wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout the respective views, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention, Fig. 2 is a view thereof taken at right angles to Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings which are merely illustrative of my invention 1 denotes the usual polishing brush adapted to pass readily through the neck of a bottle containing liquid polish into the bottle. I take a suitable length of wire 2 and form .the usual shank which is connected directly to the brush, and by bending, twisting or otherwise straining said wire I form a suitable handle 3 which may take any desirable shape that shown in the drawing having the configuration of a loop which may or may not be provided with the coils 3'. The loop 3 will have formed thereupon the short stem 5 it being understood that the shank of the wire will first of all be passed upwardly through the cork 4 after which said loop Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 113, 19915.
Serial No. 850,371.
will be formed and then the shortened stem 5 will be caused to project downwardly through the cork l and will be provided terminally with a bent or returned portion 6 which will be inset or embedded into the cork. In this way the cork will be prevented from movement upon the shank in one direction by means of said bend 6 and in an opposite direction by the handle or loop 3 so that the wire will always be fixedly mounted upon the cork.
From the above construction the advantages flowing from the use of my invention will be readily understood. Numerous modifications may be resorted to in practice without departing in principle from the details of construction herein disclosed.
What I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination a cork, a wire shank extending therethrough, a brush mounted at one end of said shank, a handle formed upon said shank, an extension of said handle passing through said cork, and means whereby the terminal of shank may hold said cork against movement.
2. A device of the kind described comprising a cork, a wire shank passing therethrough, a brush secured at one end of said shank, a looped handle formed upon said shank at the opposite end of said cork with respect to said brush, a shortened stem formed integrally upon said looped handle and passing downwardly through the cork, and a returned stem formed terminally upon said stem and embedded at the bottom of said cork.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROSALIE DELPHIN BALTHAZAR.
