T0 (ZZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, IDA C. HUNT, citizen of the United States, residing at Wooldridge, in the county of Valley and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to corers and more particularly to an apple corer.

The primary object of my invention is to provide an apple corer which will core the apple and at the same time will not permanently engage the core and become clogged by the same.

Another object of my invention is a provision of a novel cutting blade having a novel means in connection therewith for mounting the same upon the shank for preventing longitudinal or rotary movement of the blade on the shank.

A further object of my invention resides in the provision of an improved apple corer that is simple in construction, efiicient in operation, and one that can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.

Other objects as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood in the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims.

Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the difierent views, I provide a piece of wire, which in this instance comprises a shank 1, having one end thereof bent upon itself in a substantial triangular form to constitute a handle 2, and the opposite end thereof being sharpened to provide a point 3 for insertion in the core of an apple. It is to be understood that the shank may be formed of any desirable material that is capable of being flattened without breaking.

The shank has secured thereto, between the handle 2 and the point 3, a blade 4, the latter consisting of a substantial semicircular piece of sheet metal, the straight longitudinal edge 5 of which is wrapped about Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed March 4, 1914, Serial No. 822,39

the shank as at 6 and flattened as at 7 to prevent the same from having longitudinal or rotary movement upon the shank. The blade at is now curved spirally about the shank and tapers gradually toward the point 3 as at 8. By this particular arrangement the curved edge 9 of the blade is positioned in spiral relation to the shank, the curved edge being beveled to form a cutting edge in order that the corer may be easily inserted into an apple for coring the same.

The operation of my device is as follows: The handle 2 is engaged by one hand of the user and is inserted in the core of an apple which is held by the other hand of the user. The handle is now turned and at the same time forced downward into the apple about the core. By this, it can be easily seen that the core will be cut, and, from the peculiar construction and arrangement of the blade, will remain in the apple where it can be easily removed by a slight shake or knock after the blade has been removed.

It will be noted from the construction shown and described that this corer can be easily cleaned and is capable of being dried without great danger of cutting the hands of the user, thus preventing the accumulation of rust or dirt and providing a sanitary corer.

From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided an apple corer which will not become clogged when the apple is being cored and also one that is simple in construction, eflicient in operation, and because of its few parts and the simple maner of connecting the same, can be manufactured and put upon the market at a minimum cost.

It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which this invention relates that modifications may be made in detail without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having thus described my invention whatl claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1, In a device of the character described, a shank, a blade carried by said shank, and said blade being curved spirally about said shank, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
