DAIRY-REGISTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 6, 1915.
Application filed August 5, 1914. Serial No. 855,123.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUDOLPH L. LACHA- PnLLE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of Altona, in the county of Clinton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dairy-Registers, of which the following is a specification.
This is a device for keeping daily, monthly, and yearly records, being arranged in the present showing particularly for cows, for the milk yield, and the character of the yield, of each of a plurality of cows, and the main object thereof is to provide means for keeping such records in a cleanly manner and wherein the record of each cow for at least fifteen days is visible, day by day, the monthly record of each cow for the preceding year for comparison, the total record of each cow for the current month, or less, the total yield of all of the cows, day by day, and such other matter as is of interest or importance to dairymen or farmers; a further object is to provide such a device which requires no substitution of the sheets of blanks oftener than once a year; and a further object is to so construct the device whereby the records are entirely protected when not in use, maintained in cleanly manner during inspection, and wherein the blank sheets are readily interchanged whenever de sired; and a further object is to construct the device, as a whole, whereby it serves as a desk for ease and convenience in entering the daily record.
My invention is fully described in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts are designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, and in which: 7
Figure 1 is a plan view of a present preferred form of my invention, taken on the line 11 of Fig. 2, but with one of the parts in a raised position; Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, preparatory to entering a record; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged, longitudinal sectional view, with the casing closed, but not in operative position.
In the drawings forming a part of this application I have shown a casing 4, a frame 5 carrying a sheet of glass 6 hinged thereto at 7, and a wood or other cover 8 also hinged thereto at 7, the hinges preferably being of the three arm type although not necessarily, and I provide a latch 9 on the said form, an eye 11 whereby the device may be I suspended from a nail or the like driven into a vertical wall or other support, in the position illustrated in Fig. 2, and I may form the casing, and the parts connected therewith, of wood, metal, paper-board, or other I suitable material.
Adjacent each end of the casing is a transversely arranged roller 12, preferably having, each, a slit 13 therein for the reception of a corresponding end of a strip of paper 14 adapted to be rolled upon and from corresponding rollers, and each of the rollers is provided with a knob 15 whereby it may be rotated to feed the paper strip 14 in de sired direction. i i The strip 14 is passed, between the rollers, over a table 16 supported by cleats 17 on the sides of the casing, said table having its upper surface arranged in a plane above the plane of the upper edge of the casing; adjacent the front end of the casing is a table 18 supported over the corresponding roller by a cleat 19, and said table carries a chart 20 to be later described; adjacent the rear end of the casing is a table 21 supported over the I other roller by a cleat 2'2, and this table also carries a chart 23 to be later described, and, by reference to Fig. 3, it will be seen that the adjacent edges of the end tables 18 and 21 are beveled on the under sides thereof to permit a straight lead of the paper strip 14 to and from the rollers.
The strip 14 is divided into 12 main sections, only one of which is shown, one for each month. of a current year, and each main section is suitably identified by a desired designation, January in the present instance, and divided into a plurality of spaces arranged in vertical and horizontal rows, the former being eachdesignatedby the name or number of a cow, at the top thereof, according to the number of cows, numerals being shown instead of names, and several of said vertical rows, over and above those devoted to the several cows, are suitably designated, as Total, Butter or cream, Eggs, or other designations, such as, Milk test, Butter fat, Remarks,
etc, the number of such vertical rows being optional as will be understood.
The horizontal rows are each designated,
at the left of the strip 14, by numerals, one for each day of the current month, and one designated Total, and, between the rows 15 and 16, I prefer to provide a row designated Semi-monthly total, it will be noted that each of the rows designated by the date of the month. is sub-divided horizontally, by a lighter line, this being to provide a separate space for the morning and the evening milkings of each day, and the lower portion of each main section is provided with text, such as Amount lbs for the dairy products, as one for butter and another for cheese, whereby the market price is recorded and the total sum of money received in each month.
The distance between the charts 20 and 28 is slightly in excess of the height of each main or monthly section on the strip 14, and each of said charts is provided with vertical and horizontal rows of spaces, the former of which register with those on the strip 14, the chart 20 having spaces for re cording physical data pertaining to each cow, the name or number of the cow being also preferably given on this chart for iiling for future reference, although this is not es sential as the names and positions thereof on the said chart and on the strip 14 correspond.
The chart 23 has the horizontal rows designated by the months of the preceding year, whereby any discrepancy in any particular cow may be immediately noted, month by month, and the charts 20 and 23 remain in fixed position for the full term covered by the strip 14, a year in the form shown and, when the record of one month is complete, all that is necessary is to actuate the rollers to move the strip 14 to bring another main or monthly section in visible position.
The glass sheet 6 is preferably formed of two members whereby a space 24 is provided therebetween, of a width slightly exceeding that of the date indicated in horizontal spaces on the strip 14, whereby the entries may be made without lifting the glass and the charts and strip 14 still be protected against injury or soiling, and I provide hooks 25 and pins 26 for securing the glass frame 5 in closed position.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the In the present form, the cover eye or eyes 11 are connected with a nail or nails on a wall or other vertical support, and, when it is desired to make an entry or to examine the record, the latch 9 is disconnected and the casing lowered into horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 2, the chains 10 serving to support the casing in this position to form an extemporized desk for ease of entry or examination of records, the glass still protecting the records, but I may also construct my device in the formof a drawer of a desk or table, or in other desired forms, providing, however, that the strip 14, support therefor, and charts 20 and 23 and supports therefor, are used, preferably beneath a glass protector, and with a cover for the protection of the glass.
l/Vhile I have shown and specifically described a device designed for recording the yield and condition of cows, it will of course be obvious that I am not limited to such use, as the device, without any material. a teration other than in the designation of blank spaces, may be easily adapted to other uses, and, with a reservation thereof to myself,
lVhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A register, comprising a casing, two rollers therein, a strip of paper on said rollers, a chart at each end of said casing in the plane of said strip, a table for each of said charts and said strip, a transparent, slotted, cover for said charts and strip, a cover for said casing, means for securing the same in closed position, a chain limiting the more ment of said cover on said casing, and means for suspending said casing cover in vertical. position whereby saic strip and charts will be in horizontal position when said casing cover is open to the limit of said chain to support said casing in horizontal position, said strip and charts being provided with vertical and horizontal rows of spaces, suitably designated, and the vertical rows of said strip and charts being in register.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of the subscribing witnesses.
