IMPROVEMENT IN CHEEK-PIECES FR SHIPS MA'STS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

Be it known that I. JOSEPH BAYMoRn, ofthe city with a-slab ot' wood on the front side, and a plate of metal at the back. v
The nature ot' my invent-ion consists of constructing a cheek-piece for a mast-head with wood on the front side for the shroud-ropes to bear upon, and a plate ot' metal Vat the back, between it and the mast, and running down to the under side of lthe trestle-tree, with a flange at the bottom for the trestle-tree to bear upon. 4 i
By this means it forms a bracket which supports .the trestle-tree, and also a plate of strength to the mast-head at the place where they generally break.
To enable others to understand my invention I refer to the drawing, in whichl Letter A marks the cheek-piece as applied to the mast-head.
Letter B, the'shroinl-ropes around the cheek-pieceand mast-head. i A
Letter C, the slab of wood in front of the metal plate, where the ropes take the bearing.
Letter D is the metal plate, showing -the bracket at the bottom.
Letter E' marks the shoulder-bami, the object of:
which is to it tight over the shoulder of the mast to prevent its splitting at 'the shoulder, as heretofore.
That I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Leiters Patent, is-
