SANITARY WATERING-TROUGH.
" Speeification'of Ltters'latent. Patented'lflar, 30, 1915.
Application filed February 25, 1914. Seria1 No. 820,998.
To all whom it may concern f Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F.' SIM] s0N," a citizen of the United States, residing at Orland, in the coimty ofGlenn, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in SanitaryWateringbe a clear, full, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanythe characters of ref ing drawings, and to erence marked thereon,'wh1ch form apart of this application.
This invention relates to improvements in for use with fowls and a sanitary watering which the same may be kept clean and samtary in an easy and efiicient manner and one which can be readily and quickly disassociated for the purpose of cleansing the same.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effec tive for the purposes for which it is designed. I
These objects, I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the complete trough. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on a line X- X of Fig. 2. Fig. 4C is a sectional view of a disinfectant carrying tube adapted to be mounted on the sides of the trough. Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the tube taken on a line relatively Y--Y of Fig. 1.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings 1 first'provide a supporting standard comprising two end members 1 each having an upper bifurcated end 2 to act as journal seats for bearings for the trough as will presently appear. The members 1 are provided with suitable supporting feet 3 joined by a cross brace 4. The trough structure comprises a lower trough 5 and an upper inverted trough 6. The member 5 is secured at each end to the end board 7 and the member 6 is likewise secured at each end to the end board 8. Each end board 7 and 8 is provided at each end with one half of a journal trough so that the use pini9an d 10 respectively, which, when the end boards 7 and 8 are disposed adjacent to each other form complete bearing pins which ;fit' 'into the bifurcated bearings 2.
which form seats for [such pins 9- 10. Each of the halves 9 and 10 is provided with a pro ecting flange 11 and 12 respectively on itsouter end to project over and against the outside of the member 1 to hold the pins 9-1 0 from any end play in their seats. These flanges 10 and 11 eachhave projecting lugs 13 and respectivelyfitted into corresponding recessesin the adjacent flange 1n order to lock the same together against any lateral play so that when the pins 9-10 revolve the entire structure comprised of the troughs and the end boards will revolve as a unit. As will be noted then, the trough structure comprises an upper and a lower trough removably joined but locked together so that they may rotate as a unit whereby the lower trough may be inverted to become the upper trough and. the upper trough may be righted to become the lower of the troughs may be alternated whereby they will not become foul and unsanitary. Also by reason of the independent members 6 and 7 and the independent bearings the upper trough may be entirely removed from the lower trough for the purpose of cleansing or repairing the same. In addition to thissanitary structure just described, I provide a means for disinfecting the heads of the fowls whenever they come to use the troughs which disinfectant means comprises a tube 15 open at one end and provided with a cork 16 which tube is split along its length its split ends overlapping as at 17, there being a wick 18 inserted between the overlapping portions and projecting from the inside to the outside of the tube 15. Such tube 15 may then be filled with any suitable disinfectant material and hung along side of the troughs by means of rings 19 engaging hooks 20. The disinfectant material will then saturate the wick 18 and hence when the fowls use the trough theirheads will come in contact with the wick 18 and receive a portion of the disinfectant material thus automatically keeping them free from infection.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have roduced such a device as substantially ful ls the object of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still tions from such as do not form a of the invention. I
Having thus described my invention what claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the. character described comprising a supporting standard consisting of end members provided with bifurcated seats at their upper'ends, two pair of end boards, each board having a semi-circular journal pin, such semi-circularjournalpins on adjacent boards lying adjacent each other to form a complete circular pin, such pins restingon said bifurcated seats, means on said pins for holding them in position on said seats and a trough carried by each pair of boards, as described.
2. A device of the character described comprising supporting members each havin practice such deviadetail may be resorted to departure from the spirit Copies of this patent may be obtained for such five cents eachyby 'Washington, 1L0.
ing a seat at its upper end, two pair of end boards, each board having a semi-circular pin, said semi-circular pins lying adjacent to each other to form complete circular pins, pins resting in said seats, each part of each of said pins having a projecting flange on its outer end and a trough carried by each end board, as described.
halves, means providing seats for said jour-' nal pins to permit said end boards to revolve as a unit, means on'said pins for securing them in said seats, and a trough carried by each of said end boards, as described.
Intestimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two' witnesses; 7
