ruzzm.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. QUARLns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Puzzles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the invention, such as I will enable'others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to puzzles. The object. of the invention resides in the provision of a uz'zle, the solution of which will be interesting and amusing and at the same time difli'cult. With the above object in view, the invention consists in the. details of construction, and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly. pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the dif- I ferent views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a puzzle showing the parts in the position they would occupy during an initial step'in the solution; and Fig.2, a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the position of the parts when the solution of the puzzle is complete.
- 20 embrace respectively Referring to the drawings, the improved puzzle is shown as 'comprismg a body plate 10 which has slidably mounted therein for movement transversely thereof a plurality of rods or stems 11, 12, 13,14, 15,16, 17, 18, 19. and 20 and swiveled on corresponding ends of these stems are rings 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17", 18, '19 and 20respectively. The rings 12', 13, 14, 15, 17 and the stems 11,12, 13, 14, 15 and 19. The rmg 16 embracesthe stems 17 and 18 and the ring 18 embraces the stem 19, while the rings 11 and 19 are free. The puzzle furtherembodies an elongated loop 21, the urpose of which will a pear in the description. of the so'lu'- tion 0 the puzzle.
The object of the puzzle is to get the loop 21 into embracing relation with a desired rod or stem. For instance, in order to 'get the'loop 21 into embracing relation wlth the stem 16 the rings 11*? and 12 are first" passed through the loop and the latter is then pushed'through ring l2 and ring 11 Specification of Letters Patent.

then taken out of the loop. The ring 13 is pushed through the loop and ring 11 passed through the loopagain. Then take rmgs 11 and 12 out of the loop and push ring '14 through the loop. and the latter- ,through said ring. Rings 11 and 12 are then pushed through the loop again and rings 11 and 13 taken out of the loop. The ring 11 is then put through the loop and rings 11 and 12 taken out of the loop WhlCh will leave the loop embracing the stem 14. Ring 15 is then pushed through the loop and the latter through said ring.
Rings 11 and .12 are then pushed through the loop and ring 11 then taken out of the loop .by pushing the latter through 'ring 12 when the ring 13 is put on the 00p in the same manner as previously mentioned.-
Ring 11 is then pushed through the loop again and rings 11 and 12 taken out of I the loop, after which ring 14 is taken out of the loo put throug the loop after which rings 11 and 13; are; taken off and ring 11 put through the loop and rings 11 and 1.2 then taken out of the loop which leaves the loo on stem 15. Ring 17 is then passed throug the loop and the latter passed through said ring. Rings .11 and 12 'are then passed through the loop and ring 11 subsequently taken out. Ring 13 is then put on the loop and ring- 11 passed through the loop again. Rings 11 and 12 are then taken out of the loop. Ring 14 is put on the loop and rings 11 and 12 passed through the loop. Ring 14 is put on the loop and rings l-l and 12- assed through the loop,.take ring 11 ofi the oop,-tak e ring 13 oil, put rin 11 on and then take rings 11 and 12 0 take ring 15 oil, put rings 11 and 12 through loop, take ring 11 ofi put ring 13 on, put ring '11 through loop and take rings ll and 12- 011, take ring through ring 16 and putthe previous five rings on the loop by pushing rings 11 and Rings 11 and 12 are then the loop I 12 through the loop and taking rings 11 out and putting ring 13 on and so on as has been previously referred to; Take the first four rings ofi the loop by pushing rings 11 .and 12 out of. the loop and then take ring 14 out. Pass rings 11 and 12 through the l3 out and so on which will leave the loop on stem 14. Push ring through the loop the same as ring 17. Put the first three rings on and then take 11 and 12 0a push ring 14 through the loop the sameas 17 and 15, pass 11 and 12 through the loop take 11 out of the loop, push ring 13* through the loop the same as 1? and 15% pass 11 through the loop. Reverse the puzzle and Work rings 16, 18 and 19 above the loop. Push the loop through the ring 20* and then push rings 19 and 18 through the loop. Take ring 19 out of the mas er loop, put ring 16 through the loop' and keeping it above the loop put the ring 19 through the loop. Then push all the rings through the-loop by permitting the latter tofturn in ring 20 and it will leave the loop on stem 16.
What is claimed is: p A puzzle comprising a body plate, a pinrality of stems slidably engaged through said plate, rings swiveled on corresponding ends of said stems respectively, certain of said rings embracing certain of said stems and the remainder of said rings being free,
and an elongated loop engageable through the rings. 7
In testimony whereof, I afix my sig'nature, in the presence of two witnesses.
