Letters Patent No. 113,287, dated April 4,Y 1871.
IMPRovEMENT IN cHAlRs.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom tt may concern:
above mentioned indicate corresponding parts of my invention.
This invention relates to an improvement in chairs, and consists of a brace, curved in any suitable or Vdesirable form, which is secured to the side rails of a chair, and the front and rear or hind legs of the same, substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.
To enable those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to 'Inake and use the same, I will proceed to describe its construction.
In the annexed drawing- Y A A designate the side rails ;V and D D, the hind or rear legs, to which the rear ends of the side rails A A are attached, the front ends thereof being attached to the front legs E E.
F F designate braces ofcnrvilinear form, which are E,ecured to the front legs E E, and to the underside of the side rails A A at the front ends thereof, and at their opposite or lower ends to the rear legs D D at a. point below the side rails A A, by any suitable means, thereby strengthening the legs as wellas the side rails, augmenting the strength of the chair,`which is an advantage not possessed by the ordinary chair, inasmuch as they take the place of the ordinary rounds of chairs, whiclrmerely hold the legs together. By means of this brace, in connection with a chair, a neat and beautiful chair as well as a strong and durable one is obtained, makingy it greatly to be desired both as to ornament and service.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A chair constructed with braces F Ii, the front ends thereof being secured'to the front legs E E and to the side rails A A, as shown, and their rear ends being securedto the hind legs D D at a point below the side rails, .as shown and described.
