SAFETY ATTACHMENT FOR LAMPS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 23, 1915.
Application filed December 14, 1914. Serial No. 877,189.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAYTON VoN CULIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Attachments for Lamps; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to safety attachments for oil lamps and is especially designed for use on lamps used in connection with incubators and brooders.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient attachment for preventing the collar and burner of a lamp from becoming overheated to such an extent as to cause explosion.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :-Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a lamp equipped with this improved attachment; Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the attachment detached; Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section through the water tank.
In the embodiment illustrated, a collar 1 is shown externally threaded at its lower end for attachment to a lamp and internally threaded at its upper end to receive a lamp burner. Coiled around this collar 1 is a small pipe 2 having both ends thereof connected to and communicating with a water tank 3 which may be of any desired size and construction suitable for the purpose to which it is designed and which is provided with an opening 4: in its top to insure the cooling of the water contained therein. This pipe 2 may be coiled around the collar any desired number of times, three coils being Copies of this patent maybe obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents here shown which it is throught will be nected therewith, thus avoiding any possibility of the oil in the lamp becoming heated to such an extent as sion. This is especially useful for incubator and brooder lamps, thus avoiding the necessity of the attendant being required to watch the lamp to prevent explosions.
While I have shown the coiled pipe as encircling and secured to the collar 1,it is obvious that this collar 1 may be omitted and the coil placed over and around the ordinary collar attached to the lamp.
I cla1m as my invention 1. A safety attachment for lamps comprising a tank, a pipe connected at both ends with said tank and having a coil formed intermediately of the ends thereof with the members of the coil superposed and arranged in vertical alinement.
2. A safety attachment. for lamps comprising a tank, a pipe rigidly secured at both ends to said tank and communicating therewith and having a coil formed intermediately of the ends thereof, and a collar disposed in said coil and secured thereto,
said tank being supported by said coil when applied.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand 1n presence of two subscribing witnesses.
