' wAs'HBoAjnn-cn iMP. it" i V I To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VVILLIAIiI LAWLESS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Quenemo, in the county ofOsage and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVashboard-Clamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. This invention relates to wash board clamps, designed for the purpose of holding a wash board firmly within a wash tub in position for use, and one of the principal ob jects of the invention is to provide a device of simple construction which will hold a wash board at the desired inclination rela .tively to the Wash tub to render the washing easy. Another object of the invention is to provide a wash board clamp in which means are provided for securing the same to wash tubs of different sizesand to wash boards of different dimensions, and which will hold the board at any required inclination, and support the board firmly in adjusted position.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a sectional view taken through a wash tub and showing a wash board clamp made in accordance with this invention secured to the upper edge of the wash tub and supporting a wash board, Fig. 2 is a view in elevation and partial section of a clampv made in accordance with this invention and made on a larger scale than Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a. perspective view of the clamp with portion of the wash board clamp broken away, Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2, Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 55 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 designates a wash tub of the usual or any suitable type, to which a wash board 2 of any suitable character or construction is shown clamped within the wash tub 1 at the desired inclination to suit the person doing the washing.
The clamp or device for connecting the wash board to the wash tub, comprises a bar 3 curved to extend over the upper edgeof the wash tub 1 with its terminal end extending through a slot 4 in the supporting I Specification of Letters Patent. 7
'per edge of awash tub member 5, having a 'depending member 6,

throughwhichaa screw 7 extends, the end 3 serve as a guide for theclamping bar 3, and,
theenlarged portion 8 through which the screw 7 passes serves to'give a long bearing to. the said screw; The other jaw of the clamp member '3projects downward within the tub as shown at 9, and is then extended to form a horizontal arm 10. Projecting at an inclination from'the arm 10 is a clamp support 11 provided with an elongated slot '12." A bar 13 is adjustably clamped by means of a screw'14 tothe inclined-portion 11, said screw extending through the slot 12 and permitting adjustment of the bar 13.
The wash board clamps are adjustably connected to the bar 13, said clamps each comprising an L-shape member 15 provided with a slot 16 through which the bolt 17'ex-' tends, said bolt, also extending through a perforation in the bars, 13 and provided with a nut 18 at their threaded ends. The
members 15 are-provided with an angular] portion 19 and overhanging lugs 20. Thumb screws 21 extend-through the members 15 in line withthe overhanginglugs20 to clamp a wash board 2- in placela't clination in a wash tub.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a wash board 2 of any width maybe quickly clamped at the opposite edges by. means of the screws'21 and the overhanging lugs 20,. and that the wash board may be secured at any required inclination by adjustment of the screw 1 1 in the slot 12, while the entire devicemay be quickly connected to the up by means of the' thumb screw 7.
The invention is simplein construction, can be manufactured at comparatively low the required in- I cost, is reliable and eflicient for its purpose,
cannot readily get out of order, and can be "quickly placed in position to hold the wash board firmly in place in the wash tub to ren-v der'the operation of washing comparatively easy. I V D Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim.
What is claimed is V A wash board elamp comprising a curved U-shaped member adapted to fit over the upper edge of a tub, guide mountedv on one arm of said member and adapted to bear against the outer side of a Wash tub, a screw extending through said guide, an arm eX- tending downward from the e'urved member, a bar consisting of tWo sections, one adjustable upon the other, said bar being connect- Copies of this patent ed to the arm and an L-shaped member at the outer end of said sections for clamping a VVILLIAM LAWLESS.
